Canada to Indianapolis - Sharing important concern

Increasingly over the past few years, it seems like a considerably large percentage of immigrants coming to Canada are Indians. There does not seem to be much diversity in our immigrants. Most of these immigrants are coming to do blue collar jobs in walmart and fast food chains, which require barely any education or language skills (atleast from the looks of it). So, how come we cannot get people from diverse backgrounds to fill these jobs? It seems like people from Africa, South America, Europe and even to an extent other Asian countries are being overlooked to fill these gaps, gaps which require very little prior training.

I have heard that most of these blue collar workers coming from India are paying "agents" 30-40 grand to provide them with LMIAs, which seems incredibly illegal to me, others come here on the notion of wanting to study but instead transition to these blue collar jobs right away through the route of these "agents" who seem to be exploiting them and our country.

One of the greatest benefits of immigration is that it creates diversity amongst the local population, but instead right now, it is having the opposite effect where people from only one country are immigrating over here. Why aren't we looking to diversify our immigrants?

Lolz at this. Cant say I disagree. There definitely needs to be a more diverse pool of immigrants. Pretty sure the US has restricted their green card lottery system.

Before India, the country that had sent the most migrants to Canada was China. Not coincidentally, these are the two most populous countries on earth.

Well we are all aware what a mess the passport system is , I shudder to think of the internal mess that goes on at the IRCC the general public isn’t aware of or other Government departments. We have an inkling of the incompetence going on , such as individuals not meeting their RO by any measure , being waved into the country without as much as a question/ interview on why they haven’t met it .
But it is , what it is ….
And the band played on

"India Graduates Millions, but too few are fit to hire"
So, essentially we are doing them a solid by going even one better and hiring their illiterate class to come and work at Mcdonalds/Walmart?
Even the educated ones aren't exactly trained according to the above article, so my guess is that we have to train them all over again when they come here. My question being that why are we being so generous with them, in particular, when there are people from hundreds of other countries that want to come here but seemingly cannot.
I don't buy the argument of India having a large population because what percentage of people from that population are actually highly skilled and can benefit our economy (According to this Wall Street Journal article, very little). I certainly dont buy the fact that 30% of the world's skilled population is in India because that is what our immigration numbers say at the moment. Something really fishy is going on.

It seems like you are quite misinformed about how Canada's immigration programs work. Do you know what it takes to qualify for PR under Express Entry? Are you aware of the points cut-off and what it takes to have enough points to be selected? What about the PNP programs? Do you know how LMIAs work?

To be selected for PR, applicants have to pass either an English or French language test. "Illiterates" are not coming to Canada (at least not through economic immigration). If anything, we (and countries such as the US) are taking the higher skilled / more educated individuals. Those who are being selected generally have high language test scores (they need to have high scores to get enough points to be selected for PR). Generally speaking, these individuals also have advanced degress - 1-2 Master's if not a Phd. Right now you pretty much have zero chance of being selected through EE / FSW without at least one advanced degree. Sure, some of these individuals end up working in Walmart or whatever. However many also end up working in high skilled / high paying jobs (specifically in the IT, D&A, ML/AI, etc. sectors).

Ultimately your opinion is your opinion. Arguing it here is a waste of time if you want real change. None of us here work for IRCC or work for the government or are immigration lawyers or anything like that. We are randos on the internet like you. If you want real change, they you need to lobby your MP with specifics regarding how existing programs should change. If, on the other hand, you're just looking to argue with randos on the internet without driving real change, you've found the right place.

If someone short of RO is waved in, why is that a problem to you? It doest affect you in any way. And are you completely ok if a Canadian citizen is returning after spending 10+ years outside? And if someone just spend 1095 days in, get citizenship and return after many years, are you completely fine with it then?

And i guess before India and China, it was the UK.. I am not sure where this discussion takes us, but one needs to understand Immigration programs in detail. System should and is fair to everyone, irrespective of the source countries or ethnicity.

I think you are the one that is misinformed. Have you been through the immigration process of Canada? The process of obtaining a Canadian degree, working in Canada and then filling the actual application. I have, albeit a long time ago. It is an extremely long and arduous process, but a necessary evil to pick out the best of the best.
I am not sure where you live, but come have a look at Atlantic Canada. The government seems to be just filling immigration quotas at the moment, at least in the category of Economic Immigration. A lot of quantity and very little quality. What is happening right now is completely against the spirit of economic migration, where is the highly skilled talent?
If we are really only looking for fodder for our blue collar jobs at least make it diverse, give everybody a chance. From the looks of it, a particular set of people have found a way to exploit the loopholes in the immigration system and CIC is doing nothing to stop them. How else could you explain that all these recent blue collar workers are from one nationality.

and how do we achieve that, i mean whats your recommendation. i can think of the easy way of freezing immigration from one nationality and move to the other, but imo that will be discriminatory policy...

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Anyway, doesn't really matter what either of us think. Posting it here isn't going to change anything.

As I said previously, if you are in fact serious about wanting change, then you need to look beyond this forum to do that. If you're just looking to argue and complain, then knock yourself out.

This is not about freezing immigration for anyone. But about cutting out the fraudulent activity that is so clearly going on with these “agents” and what not.

The shoddy colleges in Ontario offering admissions to just about anyone need to looked it.

The recruiting agents for these retail companies that are selling off LMIAs to the highest bidder need to looked at. In all honesty you cannot justify approving LMIAs in such massive quantity for retail positions.

According to the above Wall Street Journal article only 3/100 Indian graduates are actually considered legitimately hire-able by Indian companies because their standard of education is so incredibly poor. Yet 30% of all our immigrants are coming from there, that just does not make any sense what so ever.

Cut off the fraudulent activity that is happening and you won’t have to freeze anyone.

I guess, I am just in shock at what I have seen recently. I didn’t think disingenuous activity like this could happen in Canada and be so widespread, I was under the illusion that our system was foolproof. Us old timers had to work incredibly hard to get where we are at now. But, to see people take these illegitimate shortcuts and all this to go unchecked for so long makes one feel quite skeptical of the current government and immigration system.

Immigration is primarily supposed to lead to economic benefit. If people are able to return to Canada whenever they want people will return later in life, when they want to study as a domestic student, etc. Yes people can return at any point after citizenship. This only reinforces that there should be a longer period before someone qualifies for citizenship,

Do you any statistics on fraudulent applicants? Or unchecked illegitimate shortcuts. At least we know the magnitude

Rules are rules . They should be uniformly applied . Not dependant on if the individual encounters a dead weight or someone in a CBSA uniform at the border/ POE in a complete coma waving people thru . I’m way passed to getting into a pissing match about it with a complete irrelevant stranger online . That’s high school behaviour , it’s not a internet hill I’m ready to die on.
