The Canadian Finance Minister at the G20 Summit forecast the Mild Canadian Reccesion to be in recovery next year,He reminded his audience that Canada has the strongest financial system in the world and Canada as a nation of Immigrants will ALWAYS WELCOME Immigrants and will continue to do so.According to the IMF Canada is number 1 Switzerland Number 14 and the US Number 37 and Just saw on the news record unemployment in the US with recovery in 4-5 years away.I am so glad I turned down the option of being in the US and remained in Canada about 10 years ago

BCguy thanks for the cheering news. I will be moving towards this year end. I also turned down to live in the US. I would rather live in peace than worrying and living in fear in the US due to so many factors like terrorist attack, unemployment, mentally deranged lunatics shooting around and the nature also seems to be unhappy with the US. I find it very amusing and disgusting that Americans pop up pills for depression.

Well in fairness to Canada,We dont have people go to Immigration Centers and Kill 13 Immigrants and wound other Immigrants as just what happened in New York.Canada has a much LOWER crime rate

Great News!! Thanks BCguy for posting this piece of information which is very encouraging for people like me scheduled to land in the great country by June 2010, just after olympics in Vancover, if all things goes well. I am in stage 4, ie hoping to send completed application set to my visa office tomorrow.

ss123,
I was about writing the same thing but decided not to do so, as I did not want the subject to be prolonged any further.
I am still of the firm belief that, "There is no safe haven in the world any longer", Though some countries have less crime rates than others.

With all due respect and regards to every country and immigrant, with so many people applying for immigration you think there will be "no bad eggs in the basket".

Apology:
I really do apologize, if anybody's feelings have been hurt due to this statement!!!

Well, there is crime in Canada. A friends son was shot in his home in Edmonton last year. 11 shots through his front door by two youths with shot guns. The good news is that he lived and had a finger removed. It turned out that the two suspects had the wrong house, and an hour later went to a different house where they shot another man.

There is a gang problem in Canada. However, the violence is mostly limited to those involved in crime, not like the UK where it's a common sport to go out Paki Bashing. Just knowing they have a term for it is most frightning.

No place is truly safe, and some parts of Canada are more dangerous than others.

Yes, there is definitely crime in Canada like everywhere else. In Edmonton it's mostly gangs against gangs, people getting shot and stabbed in gang feuds but occasionally other people get into it by mistake like your friends son. I never really saw any trouble in Edmonton and I did not live in the best neighbourhoods either so I don't think it happens too much to normal people. Worst I've seen were people bugging me for change outside the grocery store and you just tell them no and that's it. I've also seen some prostitutes around and sometimes they offer their services, again, just say no and they won't bother you.

Man when I lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia is was like that as well, remeber when all the bars were closed late at night walking home in the snow but nothing really happens man.

Those bums will always be there but their in their own world, but in Toronto i have heard of people being mugged and stuff so i guess it depends on city to city. Obviously with a city liek New York crime will be higher because their so many people around and ETC.

But however, the US remains the engine of the world which drive the global economy so lets all hope for a speedy recovery for the US so that this crappy recession (more like depression) can end.

Yes, you got that right, lets hope for recovery in the US and faster. Take a look at this one from ABC news

After watching this, I realized that I am far better than many.
