Canada Post mail-handlers strike next week?

I'm applying for my passport next week but my local postmistress told me yesterday that one of the Canada Post unions is likely to go on strike from about the 26th, and that it could last up to a month or longer. I'm going to drive 5hrs to drop-off my passport application in person at the passport office so that it doesn't get delayed in the strike, but does anyone know from experience if it's possible to arrange to pay extra in order to use a courier (e.g., Purolator) for the passport office to send the passport out to me?

It is now mentioned in their website already: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/new-adult-passport.html

For return-receipt of our passports the only other option besides Canada Post is a "personal pick-up" it seems, for an additional $20. The route I am taking at this stage. And I understand it'd be one helluva long drive for you once again, grrrrr

Why not use UPS, Fedex, or Purolator? You don't need to use Canada Post.

I'm talking about receiving the new first-time passport back from them, not couriering my application there. I don't see where there's any option to have the newly-issued passport couriered back to the applicant, rather than Canada Posted.

Oh, I'm sorry I thought you're mailing your application in. Hmmm. I know you might be able to pick it up from them if you're worried. I had a friend that was moving during the passport process, so he just went and picked it up from the passport office instead of mailing. But 5 hours of driving is quite hard.

Can we pick up the PR cards too?
