canada immigration & current situtation of Pakistan

I want to discuss the impact of current situation of Pakistan on Canadian immigration.

Any person with beard and name with “MUHAMMAD” must be scrutinized thoroughly. (it’s a policy after 9/11)
Since the talban’s put Pakistan on fire, Instead of doing proper security check they just drop the application of such a candidate. By saying “your experience doesn’t match” or “education points are not enough”

It is not an official declaration but they are practicing it.

I have some examples of such denied cases.

I also have Mohammad in my name and so far everything is going smooth. I am sure there would be many who are now in Canada having Mohammad in their names.

The subject issues seems very interesting but i personally believe that everything is now case by case basis. CIC used to bias during early immigration processes before 1967 and filter blacks and Asian from whites. However that bias is now stopped and they are more open and fair in their evaluation of applications.

With respect to situation in Pakistan, i believe they are completely aware of the circumstances in the region and their consulate in Islamabad is continuously providing them feedback.

Otherwise they simply could have put a ban and close Pakistan file.

They can’t declare ban on Pakistan nation due to bilateral relations between CAN & PAK. But any case with a little doubt goes to bin.

I am in Botswana with my family, and Botswana passport holder don’t need visa for Canada. My uncle used to visit relatives in Canada (he is Botswana citizen since 1975). The travel agents told him that as on your passport birth place is Pakistan and your name starts with Muhammad. Although you don’t need a visa but you need special security clearance from Canada High Commission, Pretoria. When he contacts CHC, Pretoria they give him a bundle of requirements to get security clearance.
Than I contact that travel agent and ask him about this issue. He explained me that there are many countries (among Botswana) who don’t need visa for Canada but new instruction issued that if any person from visa free country have any type of connection with Pakistan or names MUHMMAD must be scrutinized (beard is also need to scanned).
Than I further asked him what about immigration process, he says “they also treating it in the same way”

That is my experience and source, please share your views.

Cut:- I am agree with you. But I would say, this is issue not only in Pakistan or CIC immigration only, Its one global issue, I would say always and specially after 9.11 muslims are facing. To your point, Its true, "Muhammad" name make them suspicious as majority of western world believes, Kids name ""muhammad" bien used in Most muslim religios families. I have my 9 years abroad life fill with experiences which I think its not place for write down all. The very simple example I would like to say, often I can't complete a transaction from my currrent place to Pakistan and they put on hold just because of my name, for a try, I made two transaction , one by my name and other by my wife who is reiverted muslim but still using her previous christian name and mine was on hold or released after couple of days and her completed within minutes.


About your question dealing with CIC or any else place in world, I will say one simple thing " Who feel pain who has pain" , so guys that talking bellow , you me or any else, every one has its own view and most important its own experience. Who got visas or bien process normal, they thinks very thing going smooth, who has been refused or getting issues, they think reason behind. By any way, its true or its not true, BUT we can refuse to muslims bieng criticise around the world.

I would say Carry on because these situations effect individual cases but not to the extent you are thinking

Carry on, As a muslim, trust in Allah and keep yourself ready for any result. If we keep ready ourself from start on both outcomes positive or negative, I think wont disheart. I am working in one Company where we have numbers of technicians from Canada and USA and majority, even i would say 70% guys that we use to communicate in canada are muslims and definatily wiith name Muhammad or Ahmed etc most of from Pakistan and India and even myself, I have same background as you with same name. So probably they are immigrants who moved there recently or long ago, but they are . Wish you good luck.

Guys, my 2 Cents worth.Just Carry on.
Not all Muslims are bad. Whilst denouncing the bad doings of some so called "Muslims", a Muslim should not fear to practice his religion and stand by it, as long as he or she denounces violence of any kind and in any form in its absolute totality.
The Holy Book of the Muslims clearly states that "there is no compulsion in religion" and that all other religions have to be respected.

As long as an Individual has no skeleton in his cupboard, then I think there is nothing to fear.
Even people from other Nations wear beards e.g in Southern Germany, you see even young Lads with beards, so don't make a big deal out of this. I am sure the CIC is well informed about all these things. As regards the name "Muhammed/Mohammed", their is no and should be no problem as well, I think some guys are just overreacting.

I have always said, he who cannot engage in a peaceful discussion, needs to sit down and analyze himself. (Does he/she belong to this Century?)

1. as I told my personal experience with CHC, Pretoria. We belongs to Canada visa free country, but they refuse to give us entry because our family name is “MUHAMMAD”. We have official letter which asked for security clearance.

1. The CIC you say, has requested for a security clearance. Well, that is in my view nothing to do with your name, as this may be one of their new requirements for people from some countries. By the way, where were you denied entry, In Canada?. What makes you think, it has anything to do with your name? Even, a white can be refused entry if they think he or she is a threat to their country. If I can recall and hope I am not mistaken, Britain refused entry to a Guy from Netherlands sometimes back because of his ideologies.

There are numerous Muslims living in Peace in Canada. Don't forget Pakistanis and Indians, have one of the highest rates of Applications and a lot are being granted visa even today as well.
The mere fact that you are having a problem does not mean all "Muhammads/Mohameds" are being denied Visa.
I am sorry but I don't get your point.

I just told you my experience and findings after that experience. Not necessarily that all people faced same problem.

We were not denied entry but asked to provide information like relation with Pakistan, last trip to Pakistan, hosts and visit palaces in Pakistan, source of income, money transaction etc.

Last year we went to Canada without doing all this.

Unfortunately another family form Pakistan (but non Muslim) contact CHC, Pretoria and asked about this security check. The answer was, this is only for “MUSLIMS”
