Canada Bashers, You DO Have Other Options...

No one does a favor to any one. I remember not too many years ago. When Canada was starving for people to come in. Canada still needs people. Their immigration program is not a gift scheme.. this program in Canada's own interest and to run its economy. But because it has too many applicants now.. so Canada is in a position to pick and choose and cause these delays. Thanks to corrupt politicians and war zones in the world that people want to move to safer places for their better future and for their kids. Otherwise who wants to leave home country?

No doubt Canada is a good country and they have enough attraction for people because of their good policies in general. But it should be clear that its these immigrants that make Canada what it is today. They bring in manpower, money and demand for products which runs the economy. So those who are thankful to Canada should know that Canada is also (and should be) thankful to them as well...

I am totally in support of Canada's right to choose people who are good for their country and if you see most of their programs are targeted to bring in skilled and economic immigrants. But everyone is looking for his own interest. I know many people in my country apply for Canadian or Australian immigration just because they see it as an investment or an option. Some apply just so that one day they will have a 2nd passport on which they can travel to many countries and for some its just a fashion. It has become a trend that everyone put a file for immigration to some country and says.. its just few hundred bucks of investment. They don't care if its taking long or if it will ever be approved. and Canada is making money by such people as well. So in every case... Canada is watching its interest and people are watching their interest. between all this interest games, those people are becoming victims whose families are separated because of this. That is why I advocate such policies that don't need a family to be separated. They may take long, they may crackdown on fraud even harder and whatever they like to do.

The people from countries like china and india where the growth rates are really good i.e. 6 to 8% should really think before moving to developed nations. These countries offer equally good opportunities if not better, the cost of living is far lower as compared to developed nations and good quality of life. The growth in so called developed countries already saturated and even negative in some of the areas.

Honestly, family class immigration above all is a privilege compared to the other classes. The other immigration classes are tailored to bring in people that will bolster up the country; however, the family class gives people the opportunity to bring in family members that may improve their lives, yet may not actually contribute anything to the country.

Think about that. Furthermore, spousal applications are processed much faster than the other classes. My parents applied for their FSW through Bucharest in 1995. We moved to Canada in 1998, almost 4 years after the whole process had started. My parents didn't complain once. They used that time to bolster each of our English skills and make sure their kids were prepared for such a big move. They recognized that they were very very lucky to be able to make this move.

Likewise, my husband and I did not choose to be in a relationship from two countries. Love knows no boundaries. When we decided we wanted to live in Canada, we made plans accordingly. For example, we knew that we don't want to have kids before we could be permanently together. Before our wedding we already had the ball rolling on the medical and FBI clearances so that we'd be able to send our file as soon as possible. And now we're looking at something like 6-18 months of waiting (who knows now that Buffalo is closed). Granted, it's not as bad as some of the other visa offices, and yes we get to visit each other if we'd like; however, this also isn't cheap. All the flying back and forth to see each other for 2-3 days because we can't take any vacation from work adds up to a huge cost in the end. We're prepared for it. And we're making the most of our long wait by saving money for our future in Canada.

We knew what we were getting into. We spent the year before our marriage figuring out how we'd make this happen and how we could live comfortably through it, and it honestly bothers me that there's people who consider their situation so unique and special that they should get special treatment. Do the research, plan how to get through the process, you are not special.

Family class is a privilege but so is every other category that includes FSW, entrepeneur. Yes the other categories are aimed at bolstering and enhancing Canada but I am pretty sure that 99.9% of people applying to live in Canada via the family class route feel they can offer Canada something and help be a part of a community, paying taxes on well skilled jobs, not to mention some of us have property bought and paid for overseas that are willing to dump the financial gain of those properties in to the Canadian economy. Family class is by no means some weak, get out category. This category causes the most stress on a family of all the categories as often in this application children are separated from parents, parents miss the birth of their children, being apart from your wife/ husband for a prolonged period of time. Some VO's have long long waiting times. So it is true they MAY not contribute anything but on the other hand they MAY contribute a huge deal!! What they can or cannot contribute is merely your thoughts, each case is unique and I am sure a lot of people in the family class are well educated, have high skills, high paying jobs and own property overseas, that does not sound like a sponge or a leech to me!

Some people applying via the family class route don't actually have the choice to wait to have children. Some couples before getting married had no idea of the wait times for specific VO's (I am 1 of the lucky ones in that my VO is 1 of the quicker VO's). Couples unfortunately cannot wait forever to have children as there are impediments that can prevent them waiting say 36 months until their case is approved, age obviously being a big barrier here. It's all well and good having a plan and how you map out your life and how you expect things to turn out but we all know that even the best laid plans can change drastically overnight.

Canada does not owe anybody who applies anything, I agree that much but each case is different across all of the categories hence everybodies timeline is different although we all use this forum to help each other and use each other as a representative guide to where our application maybe at. People here in general do not think they are special IMHO, people here are frustrated about being separated from their S.O and use it is a place to release tension and stress which once again I think is perfectly fine if done in the right way. Once you applied as time ebbs away you get more anxious and the days turn in to weeks and the weeks turn in to months, you lose hope and this is where the support of others and this forum is a great place.
