Hello Guys,

My wife's PR Card is going to expire in 2024 May. We were planning to apply for renewal of her PR Card early next year and once we received New PR Card apply for Citizenship as we were in the impression that we cannot apply for Canadian Citizenship with an Expired PR Card.

But when I Googled, it says we can apply for Citizenship even the PR Card is expired by the time of Citizenship Test or Oath. If this is the case, then I think it is better to apply for Canadian Citizenship now.

Could you guys please let us know whether we can apply for the Citizenship now?

Thanks

Current PR card is NOT a requirement for citizenship applications, BUT if you plan to travel in the meantime during the application, then it’s advisable to have it renewed to enable the travel plans for you

Thank you so much. No we don't have any travel plan. I think we are good to apply for Citizenship now?

Thanks

If you are eligible today, yes, feel free to apply.
There's actually a chance you get that citizenship before the PR card expires. Many people are getting their citizenship in 3 or 4 months these days.
And if that's not the case, it's your choice whether you want to renew it or not during the processing of the citizenship application. The 2 are completely separate.
