Talk to the airline there is a 99.99% chance you will be refused boarding with an expired passport. Unless it is a Greek passport.

As PMM said, I think you will be likely to be denied on the plane with an expired passport. You would need to go to your embassy and get a travel document to be able to board the plane.

I agree! Unless you have a valid passport, your boarding will be denied. Alternatively, you can get a travel document from your Embassy. You should be able to read about this on the airline website before you buy the ticket.

I have the same issue ! As for long while I have been waiting for CIC to call me for the test, I couldn't renew my passport.
I had searched a bit around and my understanding you can only once use your expired passport to go back home . If you show your ticket from Canada to your home country to airlines and they are not stupid (hope not) they have to accept it. It's a rule!
If you think you get into trouble, you should pre-check with the airline before re-arranging your flight.

It "MAY" work if you are on direct flight to your home country but I sincerely doubt it. If you are on a connecting flight, airlines surely are not going to let you board. But I think it is up to the airlines' decision on what's their passport policies are.

No Way at the time of issuing boarding passes they check your passport and do not take
any risk if you are in emergency and have to travel contact your embassy they will
find some legal solution ....

Great! However, I hope you have the name and the digital number of the airline agent who gave you that information. Just in case that you have a problem at the airport.
Have a nice trip,

Good to hear. I am assuming it is a direct flight.

I would be interested to know that you were allowed to board the flight and enter your home country with your recently expired passport. Can you please leave a comment when you arrive?
Thank you
