Hey, I currently own a paralegal firm with my partner. Its only two of us and business format is a general partnership. (BTW. My partner is Canadian born, and I have 3 years Post graduate work permit).

We have been operating the business for about 2 years now, and my work permit expires June of 2016. I was wondering if I could apply for LMIA under my current partnership to extend my stay here.

I spoke with multiple immigration lawyers and consultants but they are all giving conflicting information. Some of them are saying yes I can, all I have to do is just have my partner apply as if he is an employer, and others are saying no it can't be done.

I wanted ask, does anyone have any information on this topic or went trough the same situation? I searched all web forums and couldn't find any examples. I would really like all the information on this before I can decide on anything because as you know LMIA is...well expensive. So please let me know. :)

I think that you would be wasting your time and money trying this route. You would, because you are yourself a partner in the business, trying to employ yourself. I believe that ESDC would be amused but reject it out of hand.
