Let's say I got an NOC B job right after the completion of my studies and I applied for the PGWP. Meanwhile, my wife's open work permit will expire in a couple of months from the day of my application for PGWP. It's not guaranteed that I will get my PGWP in 1 or 2 months. It might take more than 3 or 4 months. So, while I'm waiting for my PGWP (assuming that I have my NOC B job and paystubs to show), is my wife eligible to extend her SOWP or does she need to wait until my application for PGWP gets approved? I have tried to find the answer everywhere but there's no information on this particular type of situation.

Yes, she can apply. When they get to her application, they'll ask again for paystubs, employment agreement, PGWP, etc.

You should've receive your PGWP by the time they request the documents again. If you haven't, you might have to flagpole to get your PGWP and be bale to send it to proof she is eligible for a SOWP, which is a whole other story a bit more complex.

Long story short, she can apply now and wait for the documents request.

Hi,
I am in the same situation here. But while we apply for my spouse's open work permit it is going to ask for my proof of current status. What should I include in that? Since I wont have my PGWP on hand.

Attach your study permit, and the letter IRCC sent you when you applied for the PGWP (WP-EXT) attach them in the same file,

my wife's study permit and COOP work permit will both expire on April 30th, 2025 and I am on SOWP which expires at the same time. My wife already secured a full-time TEER 3 job which she started the first week of January 2025. She is also using this as part of her coop internship for her last term and she will graduate before the end of April and continue with the job. Can I apply for my SOWP extension in February before she applies for her PGWP upon graduation so that I can be on implied status pending when she applies?
Importantly, she may not have gotten pgwp approval at the time IRCC starts working on my application, so I may not have what to present upon request and no more flagpolling.

I won't be able to keep working beyond April 30th, if I don't submit my new work permit extension or a document from IRCC showing I can keep working.

Please I will be grateful if someone can advise. Many thanks

Masters in Management with NOC 63100

You don’t qualify for SOWP for either the period of Co-op or during PGWP based on new rules.

Thanks for your kind response but which of the new rules went against me based on my present circumstances? thanks

Sorry missed that you said masters in management since co-ops are not commonly part of a university masters programs. Just confirming this was a 16 month or longer university master’s program

If so you will need to apply to extend your SOWP for the remain studies and then reapply for SOWP when your spouse applies for PGWP.

Yes it is a Masters degree program of 2 years and comes with a 4-months coop..

That is what am asking now, based on my circumstances since she neither applied nor received her pgwp yet, can i apply to extend my own sowp? and will it be approved in the absence of her pgwp?
