I am just trying to find out if my step mother's sister is able to sponsor me as my father is still in the final stage of receiving his Canadian citizenship which he has been going through for a good few years now with my step mother as his sponser. In the last year I have decided I would like to immigrate to Canada and believe my step mother can only sponser one person at a time and my father can not sponsor me till he gets his citizenship now? However as mentioned my step mothers sister has said she would be more than willing to sponsor me. Any advice is much appreciated.

No - your step mother's sister cannot sponsor you.

Whether your father can sponsor you will depend on how old you are. If you qualify, he does not have to wait until citizenship - he can sponsor you as a PR.

Thank you for the reply. I am 36 turning 37 this year but from what I have read and if I understand it correctly a parent should be able to sponsor their children no matter the age?

Ah - unfortunately you are far too old in that case.

No - a parent cannot sponsor a child regardless of age. Child sponsorship is only possible before 22 years of age.

You will have to qualify for PR on your own through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry. Family sponsorship isn't an option.

If you are interested in immigrating to Canada, I would move on this sooner rather than later. Canada has a number of different economic immigration programs - most likely the one you would want to look first at is Express Entry. This is a points-based program where people are selected out of the pool for how many overall points they have - and points are awarded based on factors like skilled work experience, level of education, age, language capabilities, etc. You are unfortunately on the wrong side of things as age goes and are quickly losing points in this category (the program favours younger workers). More info here if you are interested - right now you need to have around 460 points to be selected out of the applicant pool:
