Can my COUSIN sponsor me & my wife?

Hi. My cousin is migrating to Canada from Australia in the near future.
Just wanted to know if he can sponsor me & my wife for CANADIAN PR?
Also, how much time would that typically take?

Is there any requirement for him to stay in Canada for a particular number of days/months before he can sponsor us?

I presume your Australian citizens, in which case i wouldn't worry so much if your cousin can or cannot sponsor you and your wife, you can apply to immigrate to Canada on your own, no need for a sponsor, because I think this sponsorship program is more suited toward less developed (aka third world) countries where a sponsor is probably the easiest and most assured way of arriving in Canada, an issue Aussies aren't bothered about.

Sorry, you are not quite right. If the Cousins emigrate to Manitoba or Saskatchewan after 1 year of residency they CAN sponsor cousins under those 2 provinces PNP programs. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp

I hope the following summary will help you:

1) your cousin can not sponsor you under the family sponsorship category
2) The best option for you is to apply under the Skilled worker (SW) category. But you will have to meet the criteria and requirements for SW.
3) When you apply to immigrate to Canada, there is no difference where you come from. Citizens of certain countries, including Australia, do not need visa to enter Canada as visitors. This is the only advantage.
4) PMM is correct. Certain provinces (Manitoba and Sask) allow their Canadian citizens and residents to sponsor their relatives. To explain this further, you still have to meet the requirements for the PNP (program) of the province. Being a relative of a resident of the province is a bonus but not an absolute guarantee that you will be accepted.
