Can I still use my passport with my maiden name even after official name change?

Hey all,
So my husband got his visa and will be flying into Toronto in February. After he lands, I intend to change my last name, i.e. legally remove my last name and use his last name. When it comes to my driver's license and health card, this should be pretty easy and as I understand it, there are no fees associated with it. However, to get a new passport to reflect my name change costs about CAD90. My Canadian passport is currently only 1 year old and expires in 2015- so I really don't want to have to get a new one (to reflect my name change) until it expires really.

My question is: Can I change over all my other official and unofficial documents, i.e., health card, driver's license, name on my bank account, bills, Tax Canada, etc. but leave my passport as it is (with my maiden name) and just be cautious to buy airplane tickets under my maiden name so that when I do travel, there are no problems?

Hi what about your Citizenship Certificate (or Card )?.A Canadian citizenship certificate is a document that proves that a person is a Canadian citizen. What identity proof you are going to submit for name changes in Health Card, SIN, Bank account and Driver's license?.
I guess they need supporting national ID proof which has already your corrected name on it. That is the Citizenship card or passport.

Hey,

I switched my UK drivers license in my maiden name to an Ontario license in my married name. I just showed my marriage certificate. I also changed my name at work and was able to use pay stubs as address and name ID. Once I had the drivers license I was able to change over my health card and bank account details etc.
My passport is still in my maiden name. I do intend to change it next time I am in England.

My point it though, that you can change all other docs over and keep you passport, just remember to book flights in your maiden name!

Thanks for the response Pinklady! I thought as much, I just wanted to be extra sure!

Wilson- as Pinklady mentioned, I would be able to use my marriage certificate to change my driver's license or health card and once that's done I can use those to change my bank account details, name on bills, etc. I won't be changing the name on my citizenship card or passport (until it expires that is)
