Can i sponsor my sister in-law

Hello last year i sponsored my wife from ukraine to come to canada and now she has been here just over a year. Couple days ago we found out that she is 3 weeks pregnant and now my wife wishes that her sister was here in canada. Her sister lives in ukraine, is not married and doesnt have any kids. Am i able to sponsor or is my wife able to sponsor her and bring her to canada. Or what is our best option. Thank you

I am not sure what your definition of sponsor is but if you want to just get your sister in law temporarily - your sister in law can apply for a visitor visa and you can write a letter of invitation for her.

I dont think you can sponsor her for permanent stay.

You cannot sponsor your sister in law for PR (neither can your wife). If your sister in law wishes to immigrate to Canada then she will have to qualify independently.

She can certainly apply for a temporary resident visa to visit Canada as a tourist temporarily.

6 months max at a time. However the visitor visa can be extended while visiting Canada.

Thanks screech for the reply. My wife would like her sister to immigrate but i think its best she get a visitor visa first to see if she likes canada and because i think its easier to get and faster am i right?

However if applying for a TRV, there is no guarantee to get the full 6 months. CIC may issue a TRV for much less time then that depending on the circumstances of the application.

This is why I said Max. They can get less than 6 months but, in any case, 6 months stay is the maximum allowed.

It is not a matter of applying for TRV because it is easier and faster. It really depends on the timeline of each VO office and how the sister can convince the VO that she will intend to go back to Ukraine.

I would say usually the VO gives 6 months max stay in canada - it could be single or multiple entry and can be extended.

However, the amount of time you can stay in canada depends on the border officer at the POE

Money is not all that important - although for one person I would say around $ 5K...they look more for ties to home country - so a paid job is more important. Does your sister in law work?
