Can I sponsor my husband on disability benefit PWD and no permanent residence

Hi,
I am wondering if I can sponsor my husband - we are planning to do an inland application. The issue is I am claiming disability benefit PWD and have nothing to offer. For the last 3 years I have been supporting my husband - he has not been working. We have no permanent residential address as we are renting and have moved several times. We are desperate for some help. My husband has been doing voluntarily work with the church and in return we receive food. Not an ideal situation!

I have no savings - and live on my PWD of which 80% of it goes towards rent. My husband's family support us when they can otherwise we have nothing but are very happy.
My husbands family are willing to pay the fees to CIC. Can anyone tell me what is the likelihood that I would be able to sponsor my husband?
He has no status at the moment - he is not working illegally and is from a visa-exempt country.
All help welcome as I say we are in darn need of help.
Thanks everyone.

We were in pretty much the exact same situation. I also have PWD status. We just explained how we support ourselves despite the low income of PWD. Along with the explanations, I sent a "release of information" form with the application, signed by the ministry that shows I have PWD status. You've already proved you can sustain yourselves for 3 years with him not able to work (again similar to us). Make sure you mention that.

You might want to reconsider the inland application however. I don't know what country he's from, but my husband's app went through in under 4 months (Ottawa VO). I understand you might be tempted by the OWP, but inland applications take a looong time.

Hi husband is from Ireland. Is it possible to apply outland even though we are living in Canada. We could not afford to leave the country if required for interviews etc. Any advice would be great thanks again.

Yes, you can. That was said repeatedly in your other thread. It's also indicated in the inland application guide.

Perfect thanks a million. It just doesn't make sense to me. Applying outland even though your based and living in Canada. How does that work?
Thanks

You fill out the outland forms, and send them to the outland address. Put your Canadian address.

Because it's the government and they like to be clear as dishwater. I think the wording on the website is to essentially trick people into applying inland, to take pressure off outland VO's. :p

CIC doesn't care if you are "living" in Canada.

It's ambiguous at best in the Inland Guide.

The bottom line is that CIC could do a much better job explaining the `logic' of how a person that is IN Canada can submit an Outland application. Most people don't understand that they really can, until it's too late...after they succumb to the Inland nightmare.

Would it kill CIC to add something as simple as this:
Please be aware that although you are in Canada you can submit an Outland application.

It sure beats the cryptic language that they have now, which people still find confusing.

An interview is always a possibility.

I found it clear enough, but then again, I live in Russia, which I think is the king of cryptic bureaucracy.

Hi Ponga

you mentioned an interview is a possibility - would this be conducted within Canada? Thanks

Not with an Outland application, but don't let that scare you into submitting an Inland application. As long as you have a solid application, with ample proof of your relationship, the interview is pretty unlikely...but it is still a possibility, unfortunately.

So Pongo how would that work if they are looking to do the interview outside of Canada? If I left I would never get back in..

Yes that is a risk you face. If called for an interview it would need to be in Ireland. If you can't get back into Canada afterwards, then you would need to wait in Ireland until outland PR app has finished processing and then you could return to Canada as a PR. However in most cases, no interview is required.

Also there's a chance once the app is submitted and you let CIC know you're out of status (you must disclose this in the app), CIC may inform CBSA and you may be forcefully told to leave. This could happen with either an outland or inland app in process.
