Hi,

I applied to CHC New Delhi in Jun 2010. I just got a letter asking me to do my medicals and send my original passports.

I have been working in Canada since Jun 2009 on a work permit. Can I request CHC to do my medicals in Canada instead of travelling to India.

Can anyone tell me how long CHC keeps the original passports. Since I am in Canada, I will have to send my passports via mail to CHC New Delhi. Do you think it is ok to send my passports to India while I am in India.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Chris

I am pretty sure you can do medical in different country as long as it is with designated medical practitioner. We applied in Austria but we did our medical in UK as we live here now.

Find more info on CIC web site.

If I was you I would call CIC call center to doube check:
In Canada, if the nearest Designated Medical Practitioner offering services in your preferred official language is located more than 242 kilometres (150 miles) from where you live, please contact the CIC Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100 to find out how to access immigration medical examination services in your preferred official language.

If you mail your passport to Delhi, CIC will not return it to your Canadian address because it is illegal to send Indian passports out of the country. Therefore you may have to go to India and should submit from any where within India. You will get it after visa stamping on the address you have given.

You can do the medical also in India with any DMP where you can get an appointment first. Otherwise you can get the medical done in Canada but you should ensure that the DMP sends the medical report direct to Delhi.

I don't know about DMP in Canada, but in UK they refused to send elswhere than London embassy. We called 3 practitioners and got same answer from all of them. They said London embassy will notify Vienna embassy about our medicals using internal system.

Thanks Wilson. Do you know what the usual length of time is that the consulate keeps the passports. I mean if I have to take leave and travel back to India, I would need to know how long I'll have to stay there. Is it days, weeks or months? :)

Correction in my original Question -
Do you think it is ok to send my passports to India while I am in Canada.

Do I have any other option besides having to travel back to India to submit my passports?

Thanks. Were you allowed to submit your passport to the consulate in UK? did you have to travel back to Australia or can you ask for your passport submission to be done at the nearest visa office?

Hi cmoraes,

As Wilson already mentioned- Indian national can not send passport in/outside of country...it is Illegal. However, you have the option of sending your passport through a friend/relative with Authorization letter wherein you have to mention an Indian address for VO to mail back your passports.

Even though it is illegal to send passports ,people have successfully send their passports through FEDEX to their relative in India and was returned back to Canada after stamping from VO by their relative. I am not quite sure if FEDEX was aware about the contents of the package though.

The timeline to get back the Passports with stamping of Visa actually fluctuates...some people have gotten them back within a week and some are still waiting for months. Why the disparity.... is known only to VO.

I am still waiting for passports request, so I can't comment on this yet. But I'd say I will have to send them to Austria as my application is there.

Usually people used to get the passports from 4 to 6 weeks time. There are some unfortunate incidents like medical reports delayed, postal problem or any unforeseen reasons could cause delay.

Think positive and be calm. Don't get tensed.. Every thing would be fine. Going straight forward will always lead to success.

Good luck!!!.

Waiting for medicals since 2010

Please is in CHC Accra office? We sent our documents to them since November 2010 and still not heard anything from them. Is this a normal delay. Letsomeone in this CHC share his or her experience with me.

I had the same scenario.

1. I did medicals in Toronto itself.
2. I got the Police clearance done in Toronto for the period I stayed (Staying) in Canada.
3. Sent updated Travel History.
4. Since I was already in work permit - I still went to India for stamping and attached a request letter to send the passport back as I need to report back to work in Canada - I got a employer request letter also asking CHC to return the stamped passport at the earliest.

With all these done I got the passport back in 30 days and CHC called me in India as asked if I can come to Delhi to collect the passports as it can reduce the postal delays...

Laxmikanth

Hi Laxmikanthms, where in Toronto did you do your medicals? I can use the same place when I get mine also. How much did it cost for you for the medicals? Does the OHIP cover the cost? I am in Toronto on Work Permit as well for little over a year and just had my work permit extended for another two years. Thanks in advance for sharing the information.
