Hello Friends/Seniors

My course start date is 9th Jan 2012 (Centennial COllege)

I'm currently working and have resigned yesterday, (next working day after receiving VISA)

I've 2 months of Notice period :( :( , I tried to convince my manager/ senior manager
but no luck. They are saying that you have to serve 2 months and not a 1 hr less. :( :(

so my last working day will be 6th Jan 2012 so I'm planning to leave by 7th Jan.


Will it be a problem? for port of entry or for college?


I'm planning to inform college by november end as after serving 1 months notice period,
I think they might chnage their opinion.

Hi,

In case you intend to live on-campus and made all arrangements, you can leave by 7th Jan.

In case you are planning to live off-campus, you must be there at least 2 weeks in advance. You need time to search/settle.

*I don't think if you should take your manager seriously. Kick him and do what's best for you.

college has no prob if you arrive dere a day before your classes.....but u ill face problem in finding accomodation ..if you are planning to stay wid your frnd or some relative initially ...den it wudnt be any prob ....!!!!!!!!!!!!
your manager is heLLA bad man !!!!!!!
tell him .,...i am goin to canada (a too FAr away situated country) not neighbour city

hi you can reach there even after the college starts. (only 2 weeks from the first day of college ) in finding accommodation just go through some on line websites, if you want them i will post them here. just arrange meetings if you are considering living off-campus, live in a motel or a friend/relatives house for a day. Go the the meetings and whichever room/apartment you like you can select it

Hi,

As Enfield Said, do what's best for you and instead of 60 days notice serve a notice for 30 days and buy out the rest of the notice period (if money isn't a problem).

Since, you've resigned already and that' the attitude of the manager you should bother about him too much. In addition, if you have got a leave balance (of paid leaves) get those leaves adjusted against the notice period and get yourself some additional time.

This is a good idea bro.

@Vicky86 If accommodation has been taken care of its alright to reach just in time or a little late only rough patch can be the port of exit (usually if its Delhi) although obviously they will allow you but they might eat your head a bit.

Notice period is d hell thing which hinders most of you plans.......

i think as you are going too far... you should leave ur tie ups wid d company including notice period.

Due to this notice period problem. I didnt join a job of manager in finance deptt, cause if i get the visa, i knew i have to leave for sure, so i honoured professional ethics and didn't join (knowing that i would have left after about two months job ), but we ca's are bound by code of conduct under chartered accountants act 1949.. so my situation was different and i had to sacrifice some months salary.

Anyways , the maximum possible action against you may be in form of no pay for you during the notice period months, for example if you leave the job without serving the notice period, they will just hold your salary with them.. . On the other hand, if you have signed any contract with them ( bond period), than things might get a bit difficult if you don't serve the notice period.

my opinion, weigh the pros and cons and than take a decision, if i were you, i would have served the notice period to have good track record cause one can go to college even a day before classes , its not a big deal.

*my opinion is in non expert nature as i am not expert in h.r practices..*

Thank you all for the replies. I did talk to my manager regd buy-out option and leave adjustment but he is a hell of guy who says NO to every my request, he told I can leave any time I want but if I do so they will not give me experiance certificate ( It will be absconding, he 'devil' suggested me for abscond :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: ).

Any way I'll take a flight of 7th Jan and reach there max by 8th Jan so I don't think it will be a problem as college is starting from 9th Jan.

I'm desperatly looking for temporary accomdation, I'm planning to live in temp-accom for at least 1-2 week and meanwhile search for permanant.

It will be of great help if you can post here or message me the details of motel/online sites ,I tried to search online accomdation but no luck as of yet.

Hey Vicky,

Then your manager is just proving that he is an A-Hole. Now is the time for you to hit him back - Talk it out with HR and you can submit your resignation to them directly and insubordinate him on this.

You have every right to submit your resignation directly to HR as you are resigning from the company and not from manager’s slavery.

If HR says you need to talk to the manager, just tell them you wanted to buy your notice period but manager is not allowing you to do this. However, the HR will not adjust any paid leaves that you may have, as that falls under Manager’s discretion. You need to screw the protocol and take it up with HR.

It’s Human Resources Team which will process your experience letter and your manager has no say in it.

Just a suggestion if you want to take it up further.
