Hi everyone,

In January I’ll have enough physical presence days to apply for Canadian citizenship. My wife just received a great job offer back in our home country, and we’re planning to move there. She’ll probably start around February, and I’d like to move with her.

She doesn’t want to turn down this opportunity, and I don’t want her to miss it either, but at the same time I don’t want to miss my chance to become a Canadian citizen.

I have a few questions:
  1. Would it be okay to come back to Canada only when required (for example, for the oath ceremony or a possible interview)?
  2. If I’m planning to move after submitting my application, when I fill out the form should I keep my current address in Canada as my home address and use my new address abroad (or a friend’s address in Canada) as the mailing address? Or should I use my current Canadian address for both? Or use my address abroad for both?
  3. Do I need to let IRCC know after applying that I’ll be outside Canada for more than two weeks? If so, how?
  4. Do I have to wait for the AOR before leaving Canada, or can I leave as soon as I submit the application?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Make sure you have enough PR days, because they can’t grant you the citizenship if you loose your PR.

I suggest you apply for urgent processing rather than move before that.

Also some people get it fast some others take years so I don’t think it’s a good idea.

For the online test you can pass it abroad.

But for the oath you have to be here. By the way some agents might cause the application to go under certain scrutiny if they know that you moved abroad. And they have to know, otherwise it’s concealing facts.

My suggestion if you can apply for urgent processing with proof of employment. Make sure to make a good LOE and hope you get it granted.
