Hello,

I’m a permanent resident in Canada since last 3 months, and one of my friends on visitor visa has some health issues, for which he wants to get medicines couriered over from India to Canada. He wants to send them over to my home address though. Does anyone has any idea if this is allowed? I wanna make sure I don’t land up in trouble because of receiving medicines from outside of Canada.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you
Rup

Importation of medication is highly regulated. Visitors are allowed 90 days worth of prescription in entry. Canada post and courier companies will not allow drug without proper authorization to do so. Your could potentially be facing trafficking charges if it’s inspected by CBSA.....I would avoid getting involved.

Regulations respecting drugs manufactured outside Canada

(2) Without limiting the power conferred by any other subsection of this section, the Governor in Council may make such regulations governing, regulating or prohibiting

  • (a) the importation into Canada of any drug or class of drugs manufactured outside Canada, or

  • (b) the distribution or sale in Canada, or the offering, exposing or having in possession for sale in Canada, of any drug or class of drugs manufactured outside Canada,
as the Governor in Council deems necessary for the protection of the public in relation to the safety and quality of any such drug or class of drugs.

More then likely if your friend elects to do this, all packages, couriered or mailed go thru inbound scanning by the CBSA at the POE mail sorting centre. It will be pulled, destroyed. You will receive any notifications of non compliance, not your friend.
Don't do it. It would be the same if your friend asked you to carry something on an airplane to go thru customs with. YOU take responsibility for what ever it is. The "my friend asked my to carry it" excuse does not cut it

It's too risky. Don't try it as such action could land you into trouble. I once read something like this on the canadian FAQ page of Timbu Visa services and they strongly advised against it.
