Can I extend my work permit under dual intent if applying outland?

I'm going to go work in Canada on a year and a half long work permit soon. During that time I plan to apply for PR under common law with my boyfriend after a year or so. But I was wondering if I could extend my work permit during that time under dual intent if I apply outland, as I want to keep working in Canada while my application is being processed. I'm a bit confused, so some clarification would be nice.

Only if the employer is able to get an Labour Market Opinion (LMO) unless your job is LMO exempt.

Thanks for the clarification on that. And yes the job is LMO exempt as it's a intracompany transfer covered under NAFTA.
