Hello all

I have academic IELTS with 7.5 and valid up to coming March. I am planning to apply for Canada and I saw that only general IELTS will be accepted. How true is this ? Could somebody please give me proper information.

thanks

CIC says that it has to be General IELTS on their web site, what more proper information could you want?

The IELTS Acedemic or General both have 2 components in common but the 2 components differ for both of them and they are more difficult as in thew case of Acedemic. So getting a score in Acedemic is more superior to that of General - Isnt it right so?

I believe The Acedemic should be superior and obviosly acceptable in lieu of the General one.

What's your opinion PMM. Also other Knoledgeable members are requested to comment like BC Guy, Leon, and still others to mention.

For example, in my company they want a person with a bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering. They will never hire a person with a PhD in chemical engineering for that job even thought PhD is seen as harder than bachelors degree. Just my two cents.
on behalf of PhDs and PhD students everywhere, let me say... bah!

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
The BSc vs. Phd thing has to do with being overqualified for the job being offered. Phd's are already quite specialized in their field while BSc's only have the basic knowledge to build on. The Phd going for a BSc job is likely asking for more money or if not, maybe he just wants it for short term while he looks for something better. The BSc is more easily moldable. I have heard of employers who prefer to hire people with less training because they are happy with how the workplace is being run and don't feel they need outside ideas, instead they can train their people to work with their methods. The Phd's are good for other jobs where they need their specialized training that a BSc doesn't have.

As for the IELTS. If they ask for general IELTS, they probably have a reason but if you have an academic already, you can ask the embassy or CIC if the academic would be accepted. If somebody decides to check this out, please report back here so we'll all know.

Leon, I know, this is not the place to discuss this, but... well, maybe we phd people don't know how to advertise ourselves. :) what I do know is that many phd students (myself included) don't want a "phd job" (ie. research, or teaching). get more pay? well, it would be nice, but I know I lack the practical experience of someone of my age who started working just after graduation, so I sure would be willing to start "from the beginning". bue, again, I know, not the place to discuss this :)
