Can I apply for PR and then leave Canada? (as PGWP expiring in August 2023)

Hello everyone. Here's my situation; I got my PGWP approval on 20th August 2022 for exactly one year (til August 2023). I secured a NOC-B job starting August 2022, and am working full-time since then.

My question is, as my PGWP is for one year only, and supposing there isn't any PGWP extension policy in 2023, I will be ineligible for a BOWP considering my CEC eligibility will be fulfilled in August 2023 (one-year NOC-B experience), and subsequently I won't have time to apply for PR and to receive an ITA. Also, for BOWP one needs to have at least 4 months remaining for the work visa expiration.

This means I'll have to leave Canada as my status pretty much will expire next August.

Could someone please guide me as to what options I might have? Just to add, I am eligible for FSW as of right now, but just wanted to be eligible for CEC as well to ensure I can get PR through at least two streams (CEC and FSW).

If your employer is willing to get an approved LMIA, then you can apply for a closed work permit.

Note that getting PR through either FSW or CEC largely depends on how many points you have. So do whatever you can to max out your score.

Suppose if my employer won't get me a LMIA, will I have to depart from Canada after applying for PR? If so, once I get an ITA, could I return then? Appreciate your help!

You should try to increase your score if possible. It's unfortunately too low for FSW. Have you maxed out your language test scores?

If your employer won't get an LMIA and you have to leave Canada, you will be able to return once PR is approved.

Thanks again! I had a clue that my score might be low. I have yet to give IELTS. This score was based on my old IELTS exam where I had a 7.5 overall. My qualification and experience has been in Telecommunications sector (NOC-A 0131 Telecommunications Carrier Managers: specifically as per the NOC-2016 classification)

Nonetheless, I am just comparing and measuring all the options that I have. If I can't get an LMIA, I'll apply for PR and depart, until as you've mentioned, I get approved for my PR and then I'll return.

Hi. As of right now I am still working and have around exactly 10 more months left on my PGWP. After that I'll be eligible to apply for CEC. Staying put until then.

Are you going to file for PR? Was your pgwp > 1 year?

I’d suggest that you ask your employer for LMIA now. Because we are in the same situation, i have waited for my 1year to apply for CEC. But my points is currently 465 as my age is already past 30. My wp is expiring january 2023 and up until now, the score is still 500. I only had a year of pgwp. My employers are applying me for lmia but i only have 3months left so i also need to apply for visitors visa. My lmia application from an agent worth 4520.
