Hi

I am out of job and would like to apply for employment insurance but I am concern whether it will affect my sponsorship for a family member or spouse in the future?

could anyone advise?

Thanks
Keith

EI is not social assistance, so it will not affect your sponsorship of your wife. It will also not affect your eligibility for citizenship.

However, you won't be able to sponsor a family member or spouse unless you meet the minimum income requirement:

There is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring a spouse.

u are right my intention was just to let know When you sponsor persons who are members of the family class, u should be able to provide the basic requirements for your family members in Canada for that a Minimum Necessary Income requirement is pertinent it but not required by law .

Thanks to everyone. So what you are saying is that even though you do not need to have a minimum income to sponsor a spouse or a family member it is preferred as it would increase the chances of sponsorship?
