of course the provision is popular. Otherwise the government would never have introduced it. Like typical politicians, they see where the wind blows. And it is the same reason why both the Liberals and NDP did not come straight out and oppose the bill when it was introduced. They were careful with their wording, saying things like "we have some concerns with certain portions of the bill" or "some of the changes were not what we were expecting" because they too also know which way the wind blows and don't want to risk alienate some voters.yukon said:True...
Majority of Canadians support the new law.
There maybe support against it in pockets, but that does not hold any good at the Federal level.
It may just get a bit fine tuned by the new Govt. (if their is a change after the elections), but most provisions will remain the same.
1. Very unlikely since the opposition mostly supported it and voted in Favour Final vote Yeas: 203 | Nays: 76 | Total Votes: 285rateb55 said:The winning party in the elections in 2015
Can Cancel the new law
And restore the old law?
If the Liberal Party won
Or the Democratic Party to power?
Yup. The issue isn't that naturalized citizens are at risk. It is more that dual citizens are at risk.oldfriend said:Interesting article (fresh). It deserves you give it a look !
Newly-instated Bill C-24 puts citizenship for some Canadian-born residents at risk

Or even potential duals. One example given in the article is a person whose grandparents were born in Italy. Such a person, born in Canada, may have no idea that he has any claim to Italian citizenship, but he may. There are some similarities to this case, where an individual born in Canada to workers at the Indian High Commission, is being forced to explore his right to Indian (and also Canadian) citizenship:keesio said:Yup. One little secret is that there are many newly naturalized non-white Canadians who don't mind the new laws. For some, it is simply lack of interest ("doesn't affect me so I don't pay attention"). But there is also a sentiment that making it tougher makes their newly acquired citizenship even more valuable to people back in their homeland. One person has said that because citizenship is harder to get, his value has gone up and he is an even more an appealing "catch" when it comes to matchmaking for a potential bride in his homeland. This reasoning seems a bit of a stretch to me but he apparently is convinced of it. Go figure.rayman_m said:Majority of white Canadians are favour of halt the immigration flow for some time. They believe new immigrants are coming with money and buying house with over asking price so they are not favour of immigration.
Still politicians has to rely on their white vote bank and in coming years immigration and so obtain Canadian passport even will be more tougher. Therefore there is ZERO possibilities whoever comes in power in next election will touch any of immigration rules. However CIC will take many administrative steps in their own to restrict immigration flow..
Yes this will be another potentiality for new citizens who will be looking bride in near future.. They should see their value of Canadian citizenship went high in their homeland as in coming decade very few people will taste Canadian citizenship compare to last decade..keesio said:One little secret is that there are many newly naturalized non-white Canadians who don't mind the new laws. Maybe the real reason for that will be that many people will know the reality how hard will be for them to settle down here properly and therefore they will not be willing to come here just to get disappointed and to count the days until the Oath in order to run away from here.rayman_m said:Yes this will be another potentiality for new citizens who will be looking bride in near future.. You may be surprised to learn that a poll from a couple of years ago found that those who had become Canadian through immigration came out more strongly in favour of tougher immigration and citizenship laws than those who were born here.rayman_m said:Majority of white Canadians are favour of halt the immigration flow for some time.
