Hello all,

I have applied to sponsor my common law partner this past May, and whilst I was happy to hear from the Cairo Embassy so soon (today, September 25th), Im a bit worried that this could be a bad sign? All his medical was done, fees were paid, but this wouls ne early for a landing interview (even though their processing time is now only 11 months).
The types of proofs they require seem to mix relationship doubts with landing doubts... What are your thoughts?

Please note that you must be on time and in possession of the following documents:

(X) Proof of one year cohabitation since May 2015,
(X) Proof that you lived on the same address during that period of time (since May 2015),
(X) Proof of relationship,
(X) Divorce certificates,
(X) Proof of residency in Canada ( living arrangement made by sponsor when they move to Canada)

Regarding the relationships proofs: we mailed EVERYTHING with our application aside from the divorce certificate that was just ready now. Should I bring everything again? (Photos, letters from friends and family, joint bank accts and credit cards, joint travel itineraries etc)?

And regarding proof of living arrangements in Canada: we are abroad and obviously I dont reside in Canada and will not rent a residence until we know the process is finished and we can finally move. What can I provide? I did provide proof of work in Canada (job invitation letter) and that my finances are in Canada. What else can I use to show them we cannot wait to move? We have a 6 month old baby (Canadian citizen born abroad) and will make arrangements to move ASAP but what can we do before they confirm landing to serve as proof?

Many thanks for all you advice!

It's not a landing interview. Inland applicants have landing interviews.
They've called you for an interview because they have doubts about the relationship. That's not a good sign. They don't seem to believe that you are in fact common-law. They also have doubts about the sponsor returning to Canada.

Have you got any relatives that would put you up when you return? Do you have any job offers? Anything concrete that shows your intent to move back to Canada.

Edit: If you have time, order your GCMS notes to see what their concerns are, to help you prepare for the interview.

I have a job offer letter that was mailed with my application. I also plan on bringing a daycare waitlist application for our baby, a renewed Cibc visa credit card for me and for my partner, the bank statement letter showing that my finances are in Canada as well as insurance investments where my partner is the beneficiary - however a lot of this was sent with the application package.
I became a Canadian citizen in 2009 and have no relatives there. My relatives sent letters of support of our relationship but they luve abroad themselves...

Any suggestions on what else to include? How can I rent a flat without knowing when we would be able to move? Funny that they would hold such expectations. Seems a bit unrealistic. And should't such requirements come on a landing interbiew instead?

If living together, having a baby still leaves them doubts if a relationship genuinity - wt to do??

Hi Marjlo,

Can I ask you a question? Sorry it isn't about your question as I don't know the answer. You sent your application in May of this year?? And you are having an interview with the Cairo office?? The only reason why I ask is because I sent my husband's application in June and it was recently sent to Cairo, I'm just wondering what your timeline is.....

I can private message you if you would like.

Thanks :)

There is a thread for the Cairo Visa Office but no one is really there anymore (except me, lol), everybody has already landed in Canada.
The last ones were from April, I think there was someone from May in there as well. But let me know if you want the link.

So did they tell you when your husbands interview is?? I am expecting we will be getting one as well, since we have a few different red flags :/
I really, really hope we don't but....that seems to be the reality.

Congrats on getting this far!!!

Yes, pls send me the link. It sounds like things are moving rather fast over there!

They scheduled it for two weeks from now, which is a problem as we reside in the Gulf and asked for a little bit more notice so that we can book time off work and ourchase tickets. Hope they can reschedule it!

Hopefully that works for you, let me know if it doesn't

Oh, you aren't living here?? That kind of sucks :(
Hopefully everything works out fine for you, please keep us updated.
At least you have 2 weeks, lol......but what if he wasn't able to get time off work, what if you had no money for tickets........OMG that sucks BIG TIME :O

Good Luck!!!

There was a girl whose husband had an interview and got the request for the visa an hour afterwards :D

So there is hope :)

One thing they want is proof of your relationship from the time the application was sent in until the day of the interview. I would bring the other proof you mentioned as already sent with the application, but also new proof: anything from the time of the application; and anything relevant you didn't include in the application. Keep these three sets separate, so it is easy to show the visa officer. Sometimes the visa officer doesn't actually ask to see any of this, but it is best to be prepared.
The visa officer could doubt that you are actually common-law, could doubt that the relationship is genuine, or could doubt that you will be returning to Canada. The GCMS notes might give you an idea. If you can't get them in time, prepare proof for all three issues.

One thing you can use to show you will be returning to Canada is all the preparation you are doing to leave the country you are residing in now. Letters from your bosses stating you are leaving, proof your visas are expiring, proof you are preparing to ship things back, whatever you will have to do to leave. This is in addition to what you have to do to resettle in Canada, of course.

Thank you!
However, hoe can I tell my boss Im leaving, rent a flat in Canada, prepare to ship things back with no indication of date for his visa??? Before this cisa office was over two years to process. Luckily it went down to 13 months but still one never knows. How can I tell my boss "I will wuit within the next year, hipefully"? :(
The lack of definition makes it pretty hard to come up with the sort of evidence they seem to expect....
