hello ,

I would like to sponsor my mom and dad to come to Canada via parents sponsorship program. My parents have two children not including me. My sister is 17 and she lives in Canada with me, she is on a study permit and my brother is 15 he lives in Russia with my parents. Do both of them qualify as dependent children for my parents or just my brother ? Since my sister is already in Canada with me I don’t know if she is dependant for them.

Also my common law partner had to move out of my house to his house to avoid capital gains tax ( he has been renting out his house for more than 5 years and had to move in to his house to avoid paying large taxes on gains). He moved out about 1 year ago and I couldn’t come with him because I wanted to stay with my sister in my house. We are still together but I am u sure if IRCC will understand it. Can he still be my co-signer?

Thank you.

If you're not living together it is not considered "common law". Not sure about signing as co-signer though.

Yes, the children are considered as dependents, so must be both included in the family size and the sponsorship application, even if they are non-accompanying.

If you have already met the requirements for common-law AND the relationship has not been terminated, co-signing is possible. You will need to prove your common-law status.

You are aware that the PGP program is currently closed for this year?

Thank you for the reply, yes I know it is closed for this year but I am trying to plan for next year and figure out minimum income and everything else before I submit the interest to sponsor form

Adding, you are probably well aware that the Federal Election is this fall, dependent upon what party wins, any policy regarding the PGP program can change

Are you listing each other as common law partners on your annual CRA tax returns?

We do not but we have a lease together
In that case there's no way he can co-sign the sponsorship application. Declaring yourselves as common law on tax returns is required. You'll need to meet the minimum income requirements on your own for a family size of 5 people.
