Hi Everyone, sorry for interrupting..

I'm new here but was referred to this thread.
Okay I and my husband just submitted our application 2 weeks ago (Sponsorship outside of Canada) He's a Canadian citizen, I'm an Egyptian. We've been married 10 years and living in Egypt until a few months ago. Right now I'm in Egypt and he's in Canada and of course we're worrying a lot about how long it's going to take to hear from CIC.

We submitted everything required and paid all the fees upfront. It says on CIC website that it takes 17 months processing time... My friend (Egyptian who has a Canadian passport) just sponsored her husband (Egyptian) and it took them 6 months from the time they applied to the time he got his PR (they are married only a few months). Some say 4 months. So how long is it exactly? I know it varies but we've been married so long and were never apart until now! I applied for a visitor visa twice and was rejected. So I'm just gonna wait until they get back to me

I appreciate if you share your experience :) Thank you (And please since I'm new go easy with the abbreviations. So Far I only know PR, CIC) :)

Thank you Pharaoh, I understand that part, the part I'm confused about is getting those documents translated into English (& notorized) as I assume I just can't go anywhere, is there a specific place to go???

Dear AladinsGirl,

No you can't just go anywhere. You get the police record and Family Record translated and notorized at the Ministry of Justice downtown (Floor 13) and you get the birth certificates translated at the Ministry of Health (2nd Floor) also Downtown across the street from the Ministry of Justice. I received them in less than a week.

You're welcome. Make sure you give them the names written exactly like the passports (I stapled a paper with correctly spelled names to each document)

Vigoretta, In regards to your question, I was taking notes on times for the application process and it seems to average around 8 months (from start to finish). Where abouts in in Canada will you be moving to?? I'm wondering if you have ever gotten approved for a visitor's visa?? My husband got denied twice, I'm wondering if it would be different for a woman??

Also, so we need to get a family record as well?? My husband doesn't really pay attention to what he is supposed to be doing, lol.

Wow 8 months!! Sounds like a lot :( I'll be moving to Toronto. And I was never granted a visitor visa. I applied one time in 2011, rejected. I applied twice in 2015, rejected.
Yes for a sponsorship file you do need a Family Record. I recommend you start doing it asap, it needs documents and takes a week to 10 days.

Also, since you just went through everything, I have another question for you.....When you did the medical exam, did they forward the results for you?? I heard someone (can't remember who or where from) that it was electronically sent.

No they only give you a document after you do the medical exam which you include in your application. They forward the results and you never know them ;D

So after you send your application to CIC do you receive a confirmation that they received your file or anything? We sent our application 2 weeks ago, when are we supposed to hear from them?

Thank you.
