My Friend what is the difference between security & criminality check during processing?
I think the criminality check is about checking if an applicant already has a criminal record, like DUI, violence, etc. Security check is about organized crimes, terrorism, espionage and such.

Criminality checks are about what we have done and security checks are about what we are capable of doing. I assume security checks would take longer especially if we are unlucky and a through background check is required.

Guys...I got my work permit visa without an LMO. It's valid for 3 years until 2015. But how do I know it's a closed or open work permit visa. Also, in my visa, they haven't pasted my photo. Is it usual? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Planning to check out the ever elusive country Canada in the 1st week of February.

Hi Edmontonbound, may I ask under which category did apply in order for you to get a 3 years work permit without LMO?

I have applied under AINP-US visa holder category. Once I got the offer, I requested the Alberta immigration office to write me a 'letter of support' to Canada consulate. They did. That letter of support is actually imperative in being LMO exempt.

You mentioned work permit visa, do you mean visa on the passport or the work permit on paper?

@ Sharuu, I meant visa stamped on my passport! It says W-1 under category. They also sent me a cover letter stating that I would be issued the Work permit at the port of entry.

Yes.. when you get a work permit it will say if its closed or not. On the work permit, it will say employer's name and that would mean its closed.

@ Sharuu... Yeah I know that! But closed work permit visa is valid for 2 years. Correct me if I am wrong. Further, open WP is valid for 3 years. So I just want to figure out if it is a closed or open WP based on the info on my visa.
Further, a close WP is because of an an LMO. I don't have one. So how possibly can it be closed? Lol.

hi sharu

can you tell me if you have any idea from yours esteemed experience, that for how long one can go on leave while his file is applied for pr in pnp stream even though medicals are done from last 9 months.........for how long one can go on leave to keep his status safe?

thanks in advance

Are you asking you filed for PR and want to leave the country? According to my understanding, you need to have a valid status in Canada and the conditions under which you applied the PNP certificate should remain when you land.

sharu i have even got my medicals done 9 months ago, jst waiting for passport request but can i leave before that if need arises for couple of months as i have still valid multipple entry and work permit visa. for how long one can take leave?
