Hey everybody, I want to bring my girlfriend, who is from South America, back home for Christmas and New Year's Eve. Is it necessary for us to have been together for more than a year? Or what is the best way to show proof of relationship if we are not legally bound in the form of a lease, bank account, etc.?

Sounds like she just wants to visit. If so, she would just apply for a visitor visa. No - there is no need for you to have been together for more than a year. To have a good chance of approval, she will need to demonstrate strong ties to her home country to show she has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. Showing your relationship isn't what's important - showing proof of ties to SA is what's important.

I wonder, though, what I would attached for the Proof of Relationship requirement?

These are the options:

a marriage certificate
Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM5409)
a birth certificate
an official document naming you as a parent
a copy of the inside back cover of the inviter's passport showing the inviter's parents, if applicable

Bump

Does anybody have experience with this? How long does it take? Is there an interview after submitting the visa application online? What about the Proof of Relationship requirement?
