I have a cat in the states that's staying with my family at the moment. I want to bring her here now (so bad) I've had her since she was a baby and I was just as close with her mom. Seeing as I can't leave at the moment...what would be the best method of getting her to me safely and comfortably? I know she needs her medicals and all that and my family can do that for me. I 'm just wondering how to go about getting her to me without totally traumatizing her. I'm nervous to send her by plane alone (which I don't even think you do without someone accompanying her) because I've heard some horrible stories about pets getting 'lost' and this and that :-[ And I don't trust any of these 'companies' that supposedly pick up your pet for you and drive them to where you are. Any advice? Has anyone ever done this before?

If flying is the only option, then have a friend or family member accompany the pet on the plane. Most airlines allow for pets to travel in the cabin under the seat, as long as the crate is below a certain size.
And make sure to read up on all the requirements/paperwork you'll need to pass through Canada customs.

None of my family or friends can afford to come out here either because of financial restraints or they can't take off of work :(

Then you'll have to use a service like this: http://www.petrelocation.com/ (just a random one from a google search, i'm sure there's lots of others).

I've heard this is expensive though. You might find getting a round trip ticket for yourself to go back to the US and take your cat back personally, is in the same price range.

I was just looking at this and I would love to bring her back but I just sent in for a visitor extension and don't want it to be thrown out because I've left. I just want my snuggly bear with me! :'(

Then make arrangement with Air Canada cargo:

http://www.aircanada.com/cargo/en/solutions/ac_live/index.html

Animals booked with AC Live fly in the cargo hold, along with baggage and other cargo and don't need to be accompanied.

I think it will be fine as long as it is a direct flight.
