She mentioned her layover is in Frankfurt (Germany), Schiphol if I'm not mistaken is in Amsterdam (the Netherlands).

Fraport (the Frankfurt airport) has a pet lounge: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/business_location/cargo_hub/animal_lounge.html

Lol thanks Avadava my geographic is terrible... Schiphol is the Netherlands, ;D

We recently travelled from Brazil to Canada with our dog and my husband only had his visitor visa at the time.

Make sure you follow the guidelines of EACH airline that you will be flying. We ended up flying on 3 different airlines, so we had to abide by the rules of each one.

The biggest problem for us was how to carry the dog - we have a small dog that had to go in the cabin with us. They MUST be in a SOFT sided carrier.

Make sure you get the rabies shot and have proof of that with you. Also, make sure each airline provides you with proof that you have paid etc to abide by their rules.

We had no problems at customs. They almost didn't notice the dog. She said "Ok.. nothing to declare.. you may go." And I said, "Actually, I circled that we have a dog".

It was very quick, didn't ask for any documents (even tho we had all sorts). Just make sure you have EVERYTHING in case they do ask for documents.

Good luck!

Thnx for sharing your experience! How was the dog during the trip, alright? I'm kind of sad that we can't bring the dog with us in the cabin, since just by herself she weights 9 kg's (I think the limit was 8 kg together with the container). On the other hand, I suspect she would cry the whole flight, so maybe it's better that she flies in the cargo hold.

At least she already has done her rabies shot and it's valid for 2 more years, and it's all documented on her EU pet passport.

Well, let's just say she travelled better than our baby! Ha! She did get sick on during one of the layovers... We made sure to take her outside and get some fresh air. The nice thing about travelling in the cabin was that we knew where she was... she was pretty quiet... She barked and whined a few times. But mostly no one knew we had her with us.

She's a shih tzu and only weighs about 4 or 5 kilos.

On one hand I wanted her to go with the baggage since we already had the baby in our lap... but in the end, it all worked out.

We did give her something similar to gravol to help her sleep and not be sick... I think the Vet can recommend a type of B vitamin that helps with that.

I am trying to bring my puppy from Mexico city and I was told by united airlines and Air canada thatI need a broker. It's going to cost me an extra $290. Apparently it's the new regulation out of that airport and country. I'm a bit stressed about the whole situation. My puppy is 16kgs so will have to go as live cargo. United has a pet safe program that takes care of your dog when there is a connection like walks it and cleans the cage. But I was told we might have to drop off the dog the day before the flight which makes me very nervous
