I can answer your question ;)
First step, getting married with certificate: if you had been married before you'll need your divorce paperwork. Before getting married you will need an affidavit from the canadian ambassy in bangkok saying that you are single and can marry. Then you will make the affidavit and your divorce paperwork translate in thai. After that you will go to the ministry of foreign affair of thailand to notarize your translated document. Then you can go to marriage and divorce office to get married :) you will need 2 witness and you have to do it before before noon. They dont do "farang" marriage in the afternoon. When you get your certificate translate back in english.
Advice: do everything in Bangkok and plan 3-4 day there.
For translation i'll send you contact information of the office who did mine. They have an awsome service. I'm away from home for an another week. I'll give it to you when i'll be back home.
After the traditional wedding you will have to translate all her document(birth certificate, house registry, marriage certificate, last name change certificate, etc). Then you complete the OUTLAND APPLICATION ;). Take your time to build a good one. For us we work on it almost 2 month
Feel free to ask me any question for the next steps ;)
Thanks for all the info. It's much appreciated.

I will look forward to the translation contact info.
I have never been married before so I'm good there.
Do I have to get the affidavit there to show I've never been married? Or can I get it here in Canada?
For the two witnesses, two of her friends are ok? As I won't have any friends there.

I believe the witnesses just need to be over 18

Better to get the affidavit in thailand, less expensive,50$ and in canada its around 150$. And they are used to work with the one from canadian ambassy ;). For the witness you can have 2 of her friends but i would advise at lest one of her family ;).

I sent my documents to my wife and she signed the declaration and couriered the package to the embassy in Jakarta and she recieved back my Letter In Lieu of Non Impediment to Marriage delivered to her well before I ever left Canada. So we had everything set up before I even arrived in Indonesia. Total cost was 34.50 CAD.

Ok I will just get it in Thailand when I get there.
I will be arriving to Thailand on a Wednesday. Did I read somewhere I have to be there at least three days before we get the marriage certificate?

Yep it will take you at least 3 days before you get the certificate. You should take an appointment at the canadian ambassy(you can do online right now) early as possible then you will have time to make it translate.
Next day around 6am you will go queuing at the ministry of foreign affair to get your translate affidavit notarize. Go EARLY, a lot of people and they are slow worker lol, if no mistake about the translation you will get it back mid after noon. To get it back the same day you will have to pay "emergency fee" Then next morning you can go to office to get married :) :) for us we went to Bangrak district, for thai people it mean district of love ;) its a very popular place for them to register marriage and they have nice setup for picture. You will get your certificate right away ;). Dont forget go in the morning, they are not doing foreigner wedding in the after noon.

Perfect, thanks again for the info.
i found the place to make the appointment for the affidavit but it won't let me do it for the month of September as of now. I'll check back in a few weeks and see if I'm able to then.
Is the affidavit the only thing I need to make an appointment for?

Thanks.

Yep, just bring your passport at the ambassy. You dont need nothing else because you never been married before. With thai goverment office you dont need appointment, first arrive first serve, that is why you have to arrive early.

Ok thanks. I'll keep looking to see when I'm able to make the appointment.

Another question. After my visit in September if it a good idea to apply for a TRV for her to come visit me before our wedding ceremony on January? I really want her to visit me here to meet my friends and family. We plan on applying for the PR after the wedding in January. We are both finding it very hard to be apart and we want to do everything possible to be together.

Thanks.

That's one thing I think we may have a problem with. She doesn't own a house or land. She does have a job. She does help support her mother.

That will make getting a visitor visa quite difficult, but not impossible.

My Thai wife was able to get a visitor visa due to multiple previous Canada and US visas, and other travel, and significant ties to her home country, supporting parents, own business, university degree, bank savings, house registration, etc. We ultimately ended up getting married in Canada and went inland route to avoid the risk of having to go to Singapore for an interview (low risk in our case) and wanted to stay together during the app even if it took longer.

Now I don't really think a single refused visa will hamper a PR app since you would clearly explain it by saying that she was not planning on staying that time, merely meet your friends and still go back to Thailand to get married and apply for PR later. Since the visa was denied you still went through with the original plan (minus her meeting your friends) and went about things properly by submitting a PR app (which would have to be outland since she couldn't get in obviously).

Hope things work out.

If you were a low risk case, you should've gone outland, since the risk of interview would be low. Also, if she were to have an interview, it wouldn't have been held at Singapore, but in Thailand. And since she is easy to get a visitor visa due to her strong family ties, finances, travel history, she could've just applied outland, got a visitor visa to live with you in Canada, and wait out the 6-8 months to get PR.

Even someone who's a high risk case, I wouldn't recommend inland since they'd have no ability to appeal.

Yes, I hear you. Without getting into tons of detail, I weighed all the possibilities and this was the best decision for us. I'm hoping/wishing we'll be finished in less than 12 months as inland cases seem to be speeding up recently.

Just sharing our experience with the OP, though every case is different.
