Bridging work permit when current WP valid more than 4 months

I have got my BOWP approved yesterday though my current work permit is valid until Apr 2014. Also two of my other friends having more than 4 months validity have got theirs approved. But one other friend's application, whose permit was due to expire end of Dec 2013, was rejected saying he does not qualify for it as his current permit is not due to expire within 4 months. So I believe this depends on the VO as well. Good luck to all who have applied for it.

It should be sufficient from what I read in this forum. Some have applied before getting AOR too explaining that they have applied for PR and are awaiting AOR anytime soon. They have requested the officer to check for AOR availability in their file when the officer starts processing their BOWP. Those people have got their BOWP approved because they got their AOR when their application was pickedpicked for processing thou initially they didn't have AOR. But if it's not urgent or emergency for you I would suggest you to wait for AOR before applying.

Valid for a year from issued date. Within the year if no decision has been made on your PR it can be extended.

No, only for me. My spouse's dependent open permit is valid until Apr 2013 and also didn't want to waste extra $150 in case my BOWP is rejected.

I see. Valid until April 2014. Thanks for the info. I've had that question in mind before, whether or not CIC would consider primary applicant's (whose on closed work permit) application for BOWP only while his/her family members are holding valid open permits. Now that you have BOWP for yourself, I hope seniors could enlighten us whether or not your spouse's existing work permit (based on your previous closed permit) is still valid until its expiry date.

Good news.. I contacted CIC and they confirmed I don't have to apply new work permit for my wife unless the current one expires..

What happens with my status in Canada if I get refused? Do i lose my current closed WP??

The rejection of CEC only states that you are not eligible to become a PR. Thus, you won't be losing your current WP status.

I applied on 26 Jun and got to know it was approved on 29th but received my email notification only yesterday. Try calling CIC and tell them your friends who applied after you have got their statuses already otherwise they just blindly give you the update based on online processing times.

I am XXX in Toronto, Canada since DATE. I have applied for Permanent Resident under Canadian Experience Class in Nov 2012. I have received my confirmation from CIC that the application has been accepted for processing and I am currently awaiting medical examination request. Though my current work permit is valid until DATE I would like you to consider my application for bridging open work permit due to below reason.

The contract between my employer and the client for whom I am currently working is terminating by end of Aug 2013, so I will have to leave Canada but I would like to stay in Canada and look for a job. So it would be helpful if I have an open work permit until I know the decision on my PR application. Hence I kindly request you to consider my application for bridging open work.

I hereby promise to leave Canada upon the expiry of the issued open work permit if a decision is yet to be taken on my PR application within the issued open work permit period. I have attached a copy of the confirmation e-mail I received from CIC with this letter.

How did you know, that they would extend it, if there is no decision by one year. Have they mentioned it?
