BOWP - How many of you have applied and received it successfully?

I just spoke to CIC call centre. They told me following.

1. You can hold multiple work permits - open and closed. Approval of BOWP does not invalidate your existing closed work permit.
2. After receiving BOWP you can quit your current job if you want and then work for any employer with BOWP

I have a question about a hypothetical scenario:

1. I have a closed work permit valid till Aug 2014.
2. I have a TRV valid till August 2014.
3. Now if I get a BOWP will I still be able to travel and re-enter Canada based on my BOWP and my TRV till August 2014 or I need to apply for a fresh TRV immediately I get a new WP?

I got hard copy of my BWP today. Applied on 20th Dec. Got approved on 6th Jan.

Received the Hard copy of BOWP and it's given for one year..
Submitted on 23-Dec, approved on 07-Jan, hard copy received on 10-Jan

I submitted my BOWP on Dec 31st and got approval on Jan 7th. It was fast, 4 days of processing time only.

leothelion123, I don't have 100% answer for your question but my experience may help you.
I was on closed WP which was close to expire when I traveled out of Canada. Before leaving, I got a new one, so I had 2 WPs on me, that were both valid at a time of my re-entry. My visa had the same expiry date as older WP. I showed both work permits to immigration officer in airport, she immediately returned me the old one and recorded the details of a new one only. Basically, to enter Canada you need 2 things: valid visa and valid WP. You have both, so I see no reason to worry. Get new TRV when the old one expires.

It might be foolish to ask....but .....do I first apply for Open WP and then apply for BOWP or I can apply directly for BOWP.
(I am in Canada on closed WP valid till Sep 2014, I recently received my AOR)

Hi Jimkal,

You can apply for BOWP on a date 4 months before your closed WP expires.

I applied BOWP and OWP for my wife last dec 14, 2013 online. We both got approved jan. 6, 2014. Received hard copy jan. 9, 2014.. ;D

I called up the CIC Call Center today and was told that my file was sent to another department for verification and it might take time until April 2014 :'(

Has anyone come across this scenario before?

Just FYI - I have more than 4 months left on my closed WP but my project is getting over on Feb 7th so I just took a chance and attached my manager's email as the supporting doc that my project is getting over. I was expecting a simple case of rejection at the most but this scenario has now become pretty complicated as I will be leaving the country while it (BOWP) will be in process which will anyway make me inelligible as I need to be in Canada for the BOWP.

I filed paper application in 1st week of November and received my WP last week. Submitted the WP application for my wife and Visitor Permit for my son too. Got all 3 approved. Though i didn't mention any employer related details in the application, furnished last 6 months payslips and the Offer Letter along with other requisite docs . Important thing to be mentioned here is, i filed through my employer(as per their suggestion) but still got Open WP.
