BOWP - How many of you have applied and received it successfully?

You are required to upload the scanned copy of BOWP when you apply for TRV. So wait till you receive the hardcopy and then apply for TRV.

Hi. I am trying to help our friend with the Online Application for BOWP. When I was trying to update the attached IMM5710, this error occurred:

Validation error: You have not completed the mandatory fields or you have not completed them correctly. Please make corrections where indicated. •Error Description: We are unable to validate your document at this time, please retry later.


I tried to update the other attachments, and it did successfully update for JPEG or PNG files, but this PDF file won't work. Hmmmm, did this happen to anyone before? If so, what did you do to correct it? TIA.

Have you printed and signed the document before you've tried uploading it??
If yes, do not print and sign it, this document needs no signature - upload the original PDF document instead.
Your application will be signed digitally at the end of the application process.

Hi toby, in our case, no, I did not print it. I uploaded it as pdf file. In fact, it was succesfully uploaded last friday, but the next day (Saturday - there might be maintenance), update of information didn't work at all. Can't submit the initially uploaded one as I have picked a wrong country for my hubby's bestfriend under the dropdown menu, so we really need it changed.

Hello Toby,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that out as well. Also tried uploading the non-validated version of the form as well. But that failed too.

The form gets validated successfully offline but has issues when it is being uploaded.

I will call the CIC Call Center and ask if the site has an issue. But this may become serious if BOWP application cannot be submitted online.

Hi.. I think there's a button "Share with CIC" with which you could report technical errors on page. We'll try doing that tomorrow if ever it's still not fixed by then. Please let me know what CIC agents say about the errors. TIA.

BOWP..As I said I was able to upload IMM5710 without errors.

Please help, we are currently on process for CEC application and we are done with our medical and paid landing fee already. My husband is the principal applicant, his employer issued LMO as restaurant manager last January 2014 but at that time we did not renew our work permit since expiry will by September 2014 and our PR for CEC on process and waiting for PPR. Definetely, i know that all LMO's are suspended and we no longer to use it to apply for renewal of WP. We are worried if the current problem will affect our CEC PR application (filed June 2013). Right now, we are planning to apply for BOWP while waiting for DM . Are we qualified to apply now or wait for within 4 months before expiry on Sept 2014? Second question, applying for BOWP I saw in extension WP doc's checklist is LMO attachment (if applicable), is it necessary for us to attach new LMO isssued to him which is still valid until June or BOWP doesn't need LMO anymore?

I think all the answer you can find in the Operational Bulletin 485A: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob485A.asp

"Bridging Work Permits – Eligibility Parameters
To be eligible for a bridging WP, the following parameters must be met:
The foreign national is currently in Canada;
They have valid status on a WP that is due to expire within 4 months;
They are the principal applicant on an application for permanent residence under the FSWP, the CEC, the PNP or the FSTP;
They have received a positive eligibility assessment on their PR application under one of the Economic Class programs above; and
They have made application for an open WP."

So you have to wait until your WP's expiry date will be within 4 months.
And no, you do not need an LMO, as it is an Open Work Permit.
