Border crossing to renew Visa

Hey so quick run down.... I'm married to a british citizen and he is here in canada. We are gay and we want to file for immigration, problem is his visa is coming up soon and his passport is about to expire. We are going to be sending away for a new passport tomorrow so we need to do this tonight!!!!!! If we go down to the border and cross and come back will the canadian government renew his visa for another 6 months if we take all the paper work down with us. Marriage license, immigration paper work, passport application and everything else.... Please help!!!!!!!

They should renew if you can show that you are common-law / married and have started the PR application process (you should pay all of the fees now and bring proof that you have paid). But there's no guarantee.

And also provided that you go to the border with the new passport. Normally, the length of stay cannot be beyond the validity of a passport.

We have not sent for his new passport yet. We were going to renew his visa first, for immigration we need his passport number and if we apply now his passport number will change.
