Birth Certificate

My Canadian sponsor only has his short birth certificate. Will they accept this, or does he need to have the long one (Certified Copy of Birth)? :

r u sure they are asking for birth certificate..?
I don't think the sponsor needs to submit birth certf....if ur a Canadian citizen..just a copy of the passport is enough...The Govt has all ur history!

My CL partner has NEVER left Canada. And does not have a passport -- yet. An option is a Canadian birth certificate -- we're looking at that.

Well..ok..if that's the case I would think it's better to get the long form...I don't think it's much of a problem to get it...u might want to order it now...

Short form is good enough. That proves he/she is canadi@n....

Canadian's born in Canada don't have citizenship cards. :

FYI, the short form is fine. Most people were only given the short forms in the old days. Most Canadians have never even seen their long form bc!

The only "long form" version of documents he needs is his marriage certificate.

Maybe that's not the official stance of CIC, but that's what they told me when I phoned in, that I needed the long form that included my spouse's parents name, place of birth, witnesses, etc.

Maybe it was the particular call agent that I got. Perhaps phone to make sure? I know with other things here, such as assuming a spouse's name, the long form is almost always used.
