Birth Abroad

HI there- I recently had a child. I'm a Canadian citizen in the UK. My husband has just received his permanent residency visa and we plan to leave before the end of the year. I'm about to apply for my son's citizenship certificate but it says it can take 5 months - longer for a child under 18 abroad.

What can we do when moving if we don't have my son's certificate by then...can we apply for a temporary passport or something? Can we wait until we are in Canada before we apply?
