Conservative will try all they can to block bill c6 or delay it, this is their political ego, they will never accept they are wrong and will go all the say to argue that their hastily introduced bill c24 is right. For political reasons snd ego they will fight tooth and nail including voting bill c6 down in senate. This is so ugly!
I don't think that the Senate will ditch Bill C-6 completely, it is more possible the Conservative majority to argue there and to push the Bill for more amendments back in the Commons which will likely create more delays. My point of concern from the very beginning have always been the Senate. If they try to play their dirty politic games there that Bill doesn't have any chance for Royal Ascent any time soon.

.

Looking at the complexities of passing a bill in the Canadian parliament and deep differences of opinion between liberals and conservatives on the issue, bill C-6 becoming law may be delayed till early next year. And there may be another delay of up to 6 months before it is implemented.

There will not only be delay, high chances of never making it.

Terrorist clause is a good political point for CONservative Senators to reject C-6 as a whole. Liberals will say they need that clause in the package. So, in the end it will get stuck and never pass.

No I think it is highly likely it will pass. But it won't pass until end of this year at earliest and won't come into effect (implemented fully by IRCC) until end of next year.

It'll happen... just will take awhile.

It will past eventually. They can simply remove the terrorist clause and send it back. The liberal can then pass the bill without the terrorist clause and introduce a new bill to remove the terrorist clause. After all a lot of PRs want the 3/5 rule. The terrorist clause is not the issue with them.

Agree with keesio and screech339. This Bill most likely will be pushed back in the Commons for amendments in the autumn-winter session. Unfortunately this also will create more delays.

God, I hope this potential amend wouldn't delay the bill any further...

It will delay, or even cause C-6 to be rejected with back and forth between senate and house

well. Canada is democratic country and new government has super majority seats elected by millions of people, if 40 unpopular senators can delay or reject the bill c-6, to be honest we should leave Canada today because is gonna be late tomorrow!!

I am not a con supporter, but calling 40 Senator unpopular would be unfair. It's politics & if you want to see how bills are opposed, look at US where Obama is unable to pass bills for years... Canada is a fantastic countries built on democratic values and these senators have the authority to reject or accept the bill. Good news is they won't, but they absolutely have all legal authority.

Well, those CON senators did all the readings and pass a much bigger bill C-24 in matter of couple of days.

Rumour is that the Con is trying to reject the current bill C6 for ammendment to add rule that allow MP Mosef to preserve her citizenship. This also concurs with Lib since Monsef is an MP in Liberals. The bill would be rejected in Senate for ammendment and go back to the House of Common and with 5 sessions left before Fall break, this is likely to move to next year

I see, basically C-24 was implemented 1 year after passing so the wife of Alexander can get the citizenship before the new rule, and now C-6 will be re-worked/delayed so this woman can keep her citizenship
