Immigration should not be in the same category as robotics, sickle cell or food and drugs. It's not Science & Technology, or "Social Affairs" like welfare or health.

It's about Human Rights, people who invest their whole life and expect to be respected and protected. They would rather review prisoners related bills in Human Rights Committee. So Senate thinks prisoners deserve better respect and rights than immigrants.

I just stated the mandate of the committee; I really have no say in how it is determined . But I see your point. It seems the committee of human rights is strictly restricted to pure human rights bills and studies; while C6 is classified under immigration.

No it has nothing to do with the structure of the members, that changes. This committee handles immigration related bills and studies as part of its mandate; this is from wikipedia (so not 100%):

It has a mandate to examine legislation and matters relating to social affairs, science and technology generally, including: (1) veterans affairs; (2) Indian and Inuit affairs; (3) cultural affairs and the arts; (4) social and labour matters; (5) health and welfare; (6) pensions; (7) housing; (.8) fitness and amateur sport; (9) employment and immigration; (10) consumer affairs; and (11) youth affairs (Rule 86(1)(m)).

Monsieur Bletard ... I know you are one of the reasonable ones here. Do not let the process of this Bill and whining of others blind you. This is how the public sector and bureaucracy works, probably in every country on the planet. Unless there is a majority representation within all the Houses, and urgency of the party in power to push a legislation through, then the norm is this long process we are witnessing. We know Liberals do not consider this a priority, nor do they have the majority needed to rush anything through. Will Bill C-6 be approved? Of course! With amendments? Maybe and maybe not. When? I would not make any plans until it is passed, as it could be law within 6 months, or even be dragged on for about 2 years. I think its timing is no longer significant since most of those impacted directly by C24 will qualify within this year, so the major concern now is we all need C6 to eliminate this second category citizenship that Harper invented. At the meantime, enjoy some of the chocolate, fries, and waffles your fellow citizens make, Belgium makes the best

Ok Marceau; and I agree go Pats! Sorry I left Belgian beer off the list, but I do not mean Stella Artois On the other hand, Hoegaarden is something else! June '18 may be far, but time goes fast. I am sure it will cause delays in your plans such as applying for certain jobs ..etc, but everything has a cost I suppose. Enjoy the Super Bowl LI!

Not really complaining, but many of us use this forum only to get the latest news. We have to read multiple pages to understand what is going on, and still leave the forum confused.

I would make kind of sticky post with the summary of the status for bill c6 in the beginning of the thread. That could be regularly updated and used as a reference. But as I can see it's not available option here. Another option is to create Google Doc document reflecting the same - summary of the status for bill c6. So one wouldn't need to go through all the irrelevant posts in this thread and just go straight to the up-to-date status document.

All one has to do is to go into the Senate Committee website, look into the SOCI and their scheduled meetings

so guys what is the reason of not meeting for Bill c-6? are still Conservative senates in charge or Bill c-6 not important anymore we better to contact immigration minster all he has Bill c-6 in senators house why he so quiet about this BILL after he became Minster he never talk or comment about bill c-6 so please call him!

Mark my words, the bill will go to the third reading one or two days before Summer break. It will be sent back to parliament with amendments. Parliament will vote on it after coming back from Summer break and send it to the Senate. The Senate will pass it one or two day before Winter break. The bill will receive Royal assent and then implementation will be June of next year.

Remember, how it passed third reading in parliament right before Summer break and passed second reading in senate right before Winter break. There is a pattern of delaying this bill as long as possible when it comes to voting.

There is absolutely no hope it will come into effect this year!
