Hey, in the last sitting the majority of the senators voted against the residency requirement amendment proposed by the Conservatives (Frum and Eaton), so yes, we are for sure at 3/5 now.RanRan said:So now we are for sure at 3/5, right? Is it possible that they vote against this in May?
How about the time before the PR? did they vote on it? Is it half or non now?
Can someone who understands this process summarize exactly where we are now and what will be in May 2nd?
Thank you

The next sitting (beginning of May) will be to discuss and vote on the last amendment (which has nothing to do with residency), and after that, the bill will be read a 3rd time. After the 3rd reading, the bill will sent back to the House of Commons for a final vote. The house of commons can either pass the bill with all the added amendments (which I hope they do), or reject the amended form of the bill and send it back to senate for debate. All in all, Senator Mobina Jaffer is hopeful that the bill will be finalized and passed (royal assent) before the summer break (i.e. during the month of June).
Hope this was helpful and good luck.
There might be a deal, independents might vote with cons regarding this clause then 3rd reading will pass .proudian said:Me too, we don't care about any other amendment apart from Residency Requirement
It is 3/5 going forward with Pre-PR credit. No more amendments related to this matter expected according to Senator Jaffer.RanRan said:So now we are for sure at 3/5, right? Is it possible that they vote against this in May?

Thank you. Let's hope for the best.razerblade said:It is 3/5 going forward with Pre-PR credit. No more amendments related to this matter expected according to Senator Jaffer.
In May, they will start with debating the (hopefully final) amendment being proposed on revocation of citizenship of dual nationals on grounds of Terrorism.
Then they will vote on the amendment.
Next, they will debate the bill and assuming no more amendments are propsed, they will vote on the bill itself. After this passes, it will be sent to the HoC.
The Hoc will debate on the bill as a whole along with the amendments.
If they acept the bill with the amendments, then it becomes law. If they don't, then it will be sent back to the Senate. Senate will debate whether to accept the bill the way HoC wants. If they agree, then back to HoC, and it receives Royal Ascent.
This is my understanding. Still a ways to go.
Because bill C6 impacted both. Both have been brought forward as separate amendments for bill C6cupcakes said:I don't understand why citizenship revocation is being debated with residency requirements as part of the same bill. These are 2 separate issues. Sigh.
Hi there!monalisa said:https://twitter.com/SenJaffer/status/852789058170310656
According to sen jaffer, 2 May will be last amendment to vote. then they will debate the bill and send it to HoC
It might take 3 months to implement once it becomes a law
If independents vote with CONs on revocation amendment, this bill is dead as HoC wont accept it. With it will go the 3/5 rule and all that....monalisa said:There might be a deal, independents might vote with cons regarding this clause then 3rd reading will pass .
You obviously didnt read the thread as this was answered just one page before!tk1978 said:Hi everyone, thanks for all the information exchanged here. I am new to this thread and I've read through it but I am not sure whether my question was answered or not. Can anyone please tell me in a nutshell if the proposed amendment which reduces the time of physical presence required for citizenship from 4 years (1,460 days) down to 3 years (1,095) has passed or not? and where does it stand now?
Appreciate your feedback and thanks in advance for your reply.
