So you are saying if you want to be equal with other canadians that are residing in canada, a person should come back to canada and reside for good! if not they will revoke his citizenship
. Let's Say this, now the aboriginal will say we are the true owner of this land and most of you are immigrants so get out from my land we neeed to revoke your rights to be a canadians. Does not make any sense! There are thousands of canadians living overseas and they have one citizenship and they are residing overseas for good. What will be there situation?
I was just saying that, in the interest of ensuring equality of ALL citizens, if the new citizens will have to live in Canada only (Menegakis says citizens should be expected to live in their country), then the "old" citizens should be made to do that, too. If they insist on the current bill and making naturalized citizens live in Canada, then the system should require all Canadian citizens living overseas to come back to Canada immediately so that we are all equal
.
Regardless of our individual opinions here, we have to agree citizens must be equal under law.
The situation of all those Canadians residing overseas must be the same as for all their other fellow citizens: citizens must live in Canada, not somewhere else (say the Cons). If that ruins their lives, then tough luck, just as people have been telling immigrants. Who cares, right? Come back to Canada, be separated from your spouse and children for a few years, no big deal.
As far as the Natives, they must be equal to all others, no more, no less. Your analogy to the Natives is not in any way related to the discussion of citizenship law.
