At the same time, you're right about one big thing that this forum often neglects -- we have to wait and see. If the 'intent' clause turns out to be how the Minister describes it (despite its peculiar wording), and if years go by and it turns into a formality (as it is in other Anglo countries), and CIC officers are generous with their assessments of applicants' oaths and don't show any indication to search out evidence to the contrary (such as job applications or Facebook postings), then it will be benign. Above all, the oath should be judged by the fact that people took it -- that it itself is evidence of intent.marcus66502 said:Back to topic, I honestly don't believe there's going to be even a trace of the feared massive witch hunt for any "non-intenders" who may have left Canada after the grant of citizenship. Logistical and resource problems aside, it's going to be damn near impossible to get a Federal Court declaration of misrepresentation of intent based solely on actions after the grant of citizenship, because those are in no way indicative of pre-oath intent. They would need evidence of lack of intent before the oath. If you start looking for jobs abroad while your application is still in process, why then you'd have nobody to blame but yourself.
Moving fast but no it wont be that soon.flamingteeth said:Thanks a lot for this. Somebody told me that it would be on from July 1st....
I have no idea, but somebody said the minister implied the time during one interview.CanV said:Moving fast but no it wont be that soon.
I second that , however the picture should be very clear till Friday. As the Senate has no sittings on June 23rd and 24th , so if the bill doesn't cross the second reading in Senate by this Friday , it won't be very likely to get it passed before summer break.CanV said:Moving fast but no it wont be that soon.

Probably worth waiting for a week or so to give yourself a margin. Don't rush your application, you want to try and make sure you've made no mistakes.civic said:I am eligible today (1095 days) but I wait until tomorrow (1096 days) to courier it. It should take 2 days to go to Sydney. I hope they go by postmark stamps on the received.
The man in question is also a habitual criminal with multiple convictions for drug and arms trafficking.on-hold said:The man in question received two Canadian passports prior to having his citizenship revoked; which prevented him (or his parents) from taking actions that would have secured his citizenship at the time.
Which is relevant why? We're discussing citizenship, not the man -- there's a difference, unless you see the quality of being a Canadian as completely contingent.torontosm said:The man in question is also a habitual criminal with multiple convictions for drug and arms trafficking.
Thanks for your advice. I have records for each of my abroad trips and they are put accurately in the calculator. Seeing the new law passing under fire I dont think waiting a couple more weeks is worth it and will make a big difference.paw339 said:Probably worth waiting for a week or so to give yourself a margin. What if it passes the second reading this Friday. I was told that the bill per se does not have a date to in force, it is left to the council of governor to decide when it will be on.informatics said:I second that , however the picture should be very clear till Friday. The relevance is that he was not just chosen at random to have his background investigated by the CIC. There was a distinct reason for it. And, once the investigation was conducted, they found that he was never eligible to be a citizen in the first place. So, it's very different than the "citizenship stripping" scenario that all the fear-mongers on this site are claiming will happen once C-24 is passed.on-hold said:Which is relevant why?
