Best things about Ontario?

For those of you in Ontario - what are your favorite things and places about the province? I grew up in Durham region and have been here for two weeks after being gone for 7 years. We are moving here when hubby gets his PR but he's never been here and I'm getting videos, photos, websites and brochures together to get him ready and excited about moving here. Please share the best things about Ontario!

Yesterday we went to Toronto in true tourist style! It was fantastic. Seeing all the shops, different parts of Toronto, free concerts.. There was just so many interesting and fun things to see/do! Also, I was suggested by another member a really good Mexican store..we met a lot of Mexicans in Toronto yesterday - it was great. If you want the addresses, let me know

For something on the calmer side, there are a lot of nice natural parks to see and spend time in here.

Thanks mc! I already emailed him about that Mexican restaurant. I copy pasted from the Mexico thread. I know he will be happy about that. Luckily we will have my mom close so she can babysit for us. I can't wait to shop in Toronto! I'm also excited to take him to niagara falls.

Yeah were going to do Niagara falls next month when the weather gets warmer. In fact, you can always get really really good weekend getaway trips to Niagara for around 130ish dollars and they include dinner, and breakfast and usually something else! I checked out a few, I went to this hotel before and the prices for what you get is really good, you can check it out here. http://www.oakeshotel.com/gourmet-getaway ..If you go during a low season you can get it all for under 150 dollars!

Not just Toronto but one of the best things about Canada I liked is the vastness of untouched natural beauty all around. You can drive around Toronto and enjoy thousands of beautiful lakes around. I live in the GTA area and I just love how I keep finding lakes everytime I go out just for a walk in the neighborhood.

Regarding Toronto, I believe it is the pseudo-capital of Canada. It is the New York on Canada. From being a Financial hub to all round year cultural and arts events, Toronto is the place to be if you want to enjoy the Urban Canadian lifestyle.

I do love Marineland! But I also love how you can be close to a city but still have some nature around. I grew up between Kingston and Brockville (Small town, about 500 people) so I got used to it. I like how it's not so fast pace. BUT I'm not a nature girl, I like looking at it, but prefer plumbing and tv's and laptops and all that

I do love our local farms, the local apples are DELISH! And perfect for apple pies!

Southwestern Ontario is good for so many reasons, but for me, I think it's the best because you're right in the thick of things. Toronto is close by, same goes for the USA and the Great Lakes. There's nothing you can't get within a short drive. Loads of natural areas for outdoor activities. Some great smaller cities to raise a family. It's really the heart of Canada....

The only real downside is the amount of tax we pay, but still, I love it!

It will be awesome to show my wife and son where I grew up. I have been dying to do this for years...it will soon be reality!!

I live in Niagara Falls.... but hands-down, the best tourist spot is right beside Niagara Falls in the town of "Niagara on the Lake"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT!!! It's actually nicknamed the loveliest town in Canada!

My husband lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario and he's been telling me how excited he is to show me around. Where he grew up and explore places with me. I miss him and I can't wait to be with him. I hope we get our approval soon. Been apart from each other for more than a year now

I really enjoy the seasons here in Ontario. While it's nice to have a moderate climate (I grew up in California and now live in Central Ontario "cottage country"), the temperature extremes here make the colours so much brighter in the spring (or maybe it's just from seeing nothing but white all winter)! And there's nothing like the Fall - it's breathtaking. As much as I miss the ocean, and being able to just walk out the door on any given day (summer or winter)and go - without having to shovel snow, I would definitely miss the seasons if I went "home" again.

It would take a very long time to see all of what Ontario offers....depending on what you enjoy of course. Of course Toronto has all the festivals and entertainment and shopping but some other options are...

Then there is the hundreds of Parks and beaches to visit and explore. Ottawa has the Parliament buildings and lots of unique little places to shop. So it really depends on what you are interested in.

To add to the suggestions above, take him on a ferry ride with your car - Wolfe Island is a quick trip and you could have dinner at the General Wolfe (desserts are really good) or out to Pelee Island. Also, canoeing in Algonquin Park and in the Winter, skating on the Rideau and eating Beaver Tails (can partly address churros con chocolate craving).
