I am a Mechanical Engineer and have 15 years experience as a Manufacturing Manager at an AeroSpace Company in my country-Pakistan. I have B.Sc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pakistan and M.Sc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Netherlands. Right now, I along with my family have got FSW immigrant visa and we are going to land in about a month and half in Canada. But the biggest question I am struggling so far is the choice of city/province that I should land in Canada. I have some friends from the same field in Canada but unfortunately everyone's opinion is different. One of my friend suggested Ontario because of my experience while another one rejected this idea because of masses of the immigrants there. Every person has different views. It is due to this confusion that neither I have booked my Air Tickets , which I should have done by now, nor did arrangements for accommodation.

This question is particularly important because Canada is a huge country and it is not easy/cheaper to move from one part to another along with your family and belongings. Therefore, I ask the seniors/experienced people to share their opinion about the best city/province for a Mechanical Engineer. Also, throw some light on the popular job boards in Canada. I use Linkedin frequently but would love to know other job boards.

Cheers

Working in different cities have a great impact on the level of salary in the field of mechanical engineering. The best cities in Canada for Mechanical engineers are Fort McMurray and Calgary. Fort McMurray has 36% higher salary brackets and Calgary has 28% higher salary brackets than the average salary of mechanical engineers in Canada.

Alberta is good for Mechanical Engineers, but now job market dull due to low oil price. Choose between Alberta and Ontario.

Hi Chandu,

I got my PPR a week ago and am planning to move to Canada in a couple of months. I too am a mechanical engineer with 5 years experience in Aerospace & defense industry in India. I have the same dilemma now. Where did you choose to go to? And did you find a job finally? Any inputs/suggestions would be very helpful. Thankyou.
