Don't get a starter credit card from the big 5 banks - they hold your money and make you jump through hoops to get your locked funds back.

chequing accounts - i'd go with Alterna, partial because i work there -


but MBNA/CapOne - will approve newcomers if the spousal income is indicated on application form.

my advice - get a rogers account first, as they check credit score to create a basic credit report then apply for a CC through any online bank mbna, CapOne, etc etc

The immigrant packages don't always work that way. See Scotiabank StartRight and TD New to Canada. They both give up to a $5000 credit limit without locking funds.
