Thank you and 3o2belkon all!

They never contacted us for an update police certificate or anything at all. I check Ecas nearly everyday and as of today it is still In Process. We applied in late October 2012 and got sponsorship approval in November 2012.

Mabrouk Natti. All the best in Canada. Inshallah everything runs smoothly for you and your family. Yallah the waiting game is almost over w inshallah we are the next bucket of apps. :)

Went to the VFS Visa Office today to submit the passport.
Although the letter doesn't mention it, there is a 39.57$ service charge for VFS, but they actually take 40$ and don't give change back.
They accept neither card payment nor Lebanese Pounds, so I suggest you take exact amount IN USD. Some people were complaining that the agents would not break a 100$ for them.

If you want SMS notification, there is a supplementary 2$ charge, which I skipped as I did not have enough USD cash on me to pay for it.
They will send us an email notification when it gets ready for pickup, so SMS doesn't really matter.

Overall process took me about 1h30 (I had to queue twice, as I didn't know they only took USD. Went down to the ATM across the street in between queueing).

As per the agent, the minimum processing time is 3 business days (1 day to send, 1 day at VO, 1 day to retrieve), but that I should expect around one week turn-around time.

There were lots of people. Everyone I saw or talked to was applying for a visitor visa.

VFS office is in Condord center. There is a parking downstairs that charges 3000LBP for the first few hours.
Google Maps location for VFS office:

Thank you Candude for the updates! It is good to know about this new Visa center.

I will be going next week to apply for a visit visa, hopefully it will work well. I have been to Canada before so nchalla ma ykoun fi problem.
I wanted to ask you guys and especially ARAB 21 , do you have any idea if the lebanese passport can be mailed from canada here and back. I mean if we do go and we get PPR, can we mail back to Lebanon for visa stamping or we have to come back personally??
Thank you guys for all the info you provide

The passport request letter comes with an authorization form that the applicant can fill and sign so someone can deliver and/or pick up the passport on their behalf.

I guess you could mail your passport to a friend/relative, along with the authorization letter and required docs (if any), but they would have to go submit/pickup the passport in person at the VFS center.

You would need to ensure the passport is mailed to Beirut in time to comply with the deadline to submit, and you would need to also ensure the passport would get back to you in time to land within the validity of the passport.

Once you get your passport back in Canada, you would have to exit Canada and re-enter as a PR. You can do that at the US border without needing a valid US visa. Look up "flag pole landing" in the forums.

That's awesome. Let's hope they keep it up at that speed and Kudos to the officers at the Beirut VO!

@misoDiab, the 6 months validity is actually 12 month from the date of the medical.

so it will be valid until May ?( thats when his meds are done) and not september as they state in the email?

this is part of the email:

Visa Validity:

Once issued, your permanent resident visa will expire on [26SEP2014], which is the validity date of your medical examination. If your passport or the passport of one of your accompanying dependents expires on an earlier date, the visa(s) will expire on that earlier date.

You and all your accompanying dependents must travel to Canada and present your immigration documents at a Canadian Port of Entry before they expire. The validity of the visas cannot be extended.

Visa will expire as mentioned in the email.

I'm sorry I assumed you had your medicals done right before applying 6 month ago.

If your medicals should have expired in May, as per the new law, they must give you an extension on the medicals to give you enough time to do your landing. They usually give a 6 month OR a 12 month extension.

I find the fact that they gave you a 4 month extension intriguing, but definitely nothing to worry about.
