BC PNP allocation reduced for 2025

The federal government has confirmed B.C.’s allocation of provincial nominees for 2025 is 4,000. This is a 50% reduction from 2024.

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is planning how to use the program in 2025 due to the reduced allocation. This will determine operational matters such as invitations to apply (ITAs) and the opening of the student streams.

The Health Authority and Entrepreneur streams will remain open.

BC PNP processing times are expected to increase for the rest of the year due to significantly reduced nominations allotted to B.C. by the federal government.

This is the last update of Welcome BC website, I'd like to mention that We saw around 11,300 ITAs in 2023, but the cutoff dropped by nearly 45% in 2024, with around 6,100 ITAs across all categories. By the way, BC PNP cutoffs were reduced by 50% in 2024 instead of 2025. Now, for 2025, we have only 4,000 ITAs, just 35% of the 2023 total!
This basically tells us to wait till summer/fall 2025 for our nominations until they finalize their plans and they can continue taking their sweet time for processing and to stop bothering them with asking for updates for the rest of the year. They might now prioritize giving nominations to applicants whose work permit is ending soon this year. Not sure how having fewer nominations increases processing times, it should be faster since now there will be far less applications to go through! Just have to play their waiting game until its our turn. I wouldn't be surprised if the status stays "in-process" for most of this year now unfortunately

They absolutely don’t care when someone’s work permit expires. And there’s no point in making predictions - everything can change in a day with a new minister and new rules.

You can extend your WP without an LMIA if your job is LMIA-exempt or if you fall under a special category, such as CUAET.
However, In most cases, your employer needs a LMIA.

I don’t fall under CUAET. How to find whether the job is LMIA exempt ?

Did anyone got below email today ?

Dear XXXXXX XXXXX ,

You are receiving this email because you have submitted an application to the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).

As you may be aware, the federal government has confirmed that B.C.’s 2025 provincial nomination allocation is just 4,000. This is a 50% reduction from 2024.

Due to this significant reduction, BC PNP processing times are expected to increase for the rest of the year. Applications that have already been received will still be processed, but you may experience significantly longer wait times than anticipated.

We encourage you to check the WelcomeBC News page, where we will post program updates as they are confirmed.

Sincerely,

BC Provincial Nominee Program
