Hi guys,

I got my BCPNP approval package by mail yesterday. So exciting!!!

File#:SO-14-37**
Application sent: July 02, 2014
AOR received: July 21 2014
Nomination date: Jan 05, 2015
Approval package sent by BCPNP office: Jan 15, 2015
Approval package received by mail: Jan 16, 2015
International Post Graduate

Earlier today I went to the peace arch border crossing to apply for a work permit (my current PGWP will expire in March). But the officer said they will only issue me a new one when my current work permit will expire within 1-2 weeks. That's really weird.

Congrats Oh--!Canada

I want to ask you something...

1-Did they contact you or your employer?
2- Is the work permit open or close?
3- Can you tell me how to apply at the border and what documents do I need?

Thanks

Thanks Anoop2308 :)

Yes, my advisor phoned my previous employer as printed on my application form to ask why I quit and contacted me for more information about my current employment.

2- Is the work permit open or close?
The WP I applied is a close one. It is restricted to my current employer. My previous WP was the PGWP which is non-extendable. So the BCPNP office issued me a WP supporting letter only restricted to my current employer. But the advisor told me if I want to change my job in the future, they can issue me another supporting letter for a new WP. But I think once you received the AOR from CIC after submitting your application for PR, then you can apply for a bridging open work permit.

3- Can you tell me how to apply at the border and what documents do I need?
Funny story. I went to the Peach Arch border on Sat to flagpole and they refused to process my request. But I successfully applied for a new WP on Sun when I went to the Sumas border in Abbotsford. You can check the link below for detaills about "Flagpoling":http://www.visatalk.ca/flagpoling/

Thanks again for the info Oh--!Canada.

I went to the pnp office today.
My file Number is 44**
My PGWP expires on 6 March. Hopefully I get nominated before that. Then I can use the support letter to apply for work permit.

Is anyone in the same situation? Whats the best thing for me to do?

Thank you

Hello
Anoop2308
What did they told .which number of application now they are processing.
Thanks

Oh Canada can u please explain to em the process of changing employers during the bc pnp processing period. does it cancel ur application and restart a new one?

Hi aman1,
They didn't give a lot of information. I asked when my case would be processed(44**). They said at the end of febuary.

Once we receive our nomination by email can we go down to the border and get our new documents or do we have to wait until it arrives in the mail,
Thanks

I just changed my job and sent them an email informing them about my situation. I applied under the International Post Graduate so I guess changing jobs would not affect my application.

According to my advisor, the BCPNP office will only email you the work permit supporting letter if required and the nomination letter can be only received by mail. The officer at the crossing border may ask you to show you approval letter along with your WP supporting letter.

I went to the border before getting the official acceptance package in the mail. All I had with me was the e-mail I got from the PNP office saying I was accepted, plus the support letter that was attached to the e-mail. And obviously documentation about my work (basically the same documents my employer wrote for me when we applied for PNP, such as letter of recommendation, job offer etc.) The official nomination certificate came in the mail later, but yeah, I had no trouble getting a WP at the border without it. The support letter was way more important in my experience.

It's worth mentioning that when I applied for PNP I added a sheet where I specifically asked for the support letter to be issued as soon as possible, so that I can get a new WP faster (which they kindly did). Like somebody said, I don't think they automatically send it, you might have to ask for it.

Oh it's not an official form included in the application package or anything. It was just a single paper I typed up myself. Just one paragraph basically, asking that the support letter be issued. I placed it as the last page on the humongous stack of papers that I sent as my PNP application. With all my PNP/CIC applications I've always had things I've needed to clarify beyond what can go in the official forms, so that's just what I do.

I assume calling the PNP office at any time during the processing would also work.

Thank you Liisa227 :-D
