-What kind of jobs are available all over canada esp Edmonton Alberta,
-Do you need any added education for mortgage underwriting jobs.
-What other banking jobs are available in Canada. eg Teller, SME Jobs, Loan segment jobs, General Banking, etc etc.
-What are the avg wages per hour
-How is working in Banks compared to working in credit unions etc.
-Does the govt of Alberta fund the education of newcomers.

Seniors and all members having any information pl contribute.

Hello everyone, I am also interested in the same topic; hopefully senior will respond. :)
I plan to live in Toronto and I have experience in Banking.
I have read some blogs, in which people say that they were able to get jobs in banks, as tellers (this person did not have any banking experience).

I hope to obtain a job in a bank, no matter what it is… I just want to get my foot in the door and then grow in the same institution. ;D
Good luck,

NeN

People,

This is some of my initial research in the field of Accredited mortgage professionals -as i am a home loans guy from india i am a Civil Engg + MBA finance.

I have got in touch with the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association @ Calgary.
Got in touch with few AMPs in Alberta area thro linkedin.com
It seems that the govt of alberta is sponsoring the education of newcomers who are unempolyed correct me if i am wrong.
Also i wanted to know if you are unemployed and doing a govt sponsored course do you get unemployment insurance.
Most Banking jobs related to mortgages need AMP qualif which is not province specific but generic in nature.
But you need min 2 yrs work exp even to join AMP courses but when i got in touch with their institute they said indian exp is valid need to submit sal slips and tax returns to prove the same.
My another question is that is it better target banks or credit unions or non banking financial companies like ATB etc etc.

All guys from retail loans both from India and Canada esp Alberta pl share your views its crucial to forward plan from india itself to get good jobs.

Dear Suhash,
Also i would like to know what kinda qualif are required for doing credit analyst jobs as i have a good corp finance exp related to export imports, forex, budgeting, variance analysis, mis and banking related to manuf companies in india.

HI Maverick,

Credit Analyst: omm .. actually depends on the industry.. for equity side your best bet might be Toronto.. as far as the qualification goes .. they usually require prior experiance on financial statement analysis/forecasting .. which you may already do since u mentioned budgeting ..

but industry like commodities/equity/ derivatives ets ... each have diff requirements .. like for commodities you need to be familiar with mark to market concept.. with good grasp of financial modeling like .. option pricing (just an example) .. i would shoot for corporate finance side .. if don't get what i want then i would go for MS Finance degree either in UT or York... i already have bba and mba in finance from houston... but won't hurt to have a back up.

Hi All,

Me and my wife also from Banking Sector and have 10 plus years experience in Retail/Corporate Credit, General Banking, Trade Finance etc etc.. We too plng to head Toronto and now researching the employment prospects there. Unlike Asia, I presume that Canadian Banking Sector is unique. But wherever you go banking is banking.... Just speculating... Nice to see such a thread here...

I know a guy who was my collegue 5-6 years before.. and now in Toronto in Banking Sector. Trying to get his contact and if I get him.... will give you more details... like scope, potential etc etc

Just my stints I might not be close but this is what I have come to know.

You need be certified like you use to be certified in India for specifics...like for MF's its AMFI and for other verticals different certification which make you eligible in Canada.

Rest, It is initially difficult to straight away get in a bank but trying hard and with some contacts, gets the interview rest is up to the Candidate.

Best of luck

People,

I would sugget as a learning for other lets post our research done till date on job hunt or what ever you may be knowing of the banking sector.

Lets share all data and then come out with conclusions whether it is right or wrong after discussions.

I would like to request max input from people working in other coutries viz Australia, NZ, South Africa, Canada, US, UK and Europe as these guys will have some thing to share as they might have banking norms similar to those in Canada.

HARE KRISHNA....

I am working in Australia as a Credit Risk Review Analyst in a Credit Union. I did by Bachelors and MBA from Australia so i got the job on the base of that but normally one who does not have a degree will have to do same small courses before they can start working in a banking industry such as Certificate 3 in Financial Services. I think we will need to do some certificates like this to be eligible to work in Canada.

Cheers
