I am from Mumbai, India and about to apply for Canada visitor (tourist) visa, I have absolutely no ties with Canada nor knows anyone from my immediate family or close friends who lives in Canada. I am told that there wont be any visa interview but I will have to submit the necessary documents to local Canada consulate. Every god dam agent and site is telling to get both bank balance as well ITR done but on Canada gov's official website they aren't specific about what supporting docs applicant must submit. I have a friend who received US tourist visa a while ago, based on generic information out here on internet he had prepared a bunch of docs to support his file but on interview day the VO didn't ask for any of the docs and all of his efforts go in vain, though he was happy to receive the tourist visa. So I was wondering how necessary it is to submit both bank balance as well as ITR to support your visitor visa application ? I have pretty hefty n well maintained bank balance that I can show but I am reluctant to submit ITR (unless its a must). So any individual out here mind to share his/her experience who has received Canada visitor (tourist) visa recently ?

First up I hope you are applying for visa via the GCkey portal. Stick to providing only the documents asked for. There will be a document checklist that will pop up, just follow that. Agents tend to go overboard for no reason and in the process get to know lot of confidential details about an applicant even if it is not required.

IRCC document checklist is quite clear on what is to be submitted. If the checklist has asked for financials they will also specify a list of what documents you can submit. Use you discretion to provide what you think are the most appropriate documents to best ascertain you are financially sound and will be able to bear the complete expenses of the trip.

Point noted, thanks a ton for that invaluable input.
